AJ's closet clean-out: Part I

Like Anna, I am cleaning out my closet -- trying to decide what spring/summer items are worth keeping and what fall/winter items are work well for me. I've already put the worst offenders in the donation bag, but need advice on several pieces.

1) Long brown crinkly skirt (Angie's fall trends blog mentioned that longer skirts are "in" but does this one work?); also cropped blue cardigan -- belted here.

1) I will let Angie comment on the long skirt; I don't know. I do like the proportions on this outfit though. And I like the cardi belted.

2) Cardi is okay - like it belted. It's kind of loose on you in the sleeves. That could be personal preference, but I like cardis to fit more snugly in the sleeves.

3) Love this - keep!

4) Also love this - keep! This looks like a versatile piece and if it's got beads along the neckline, you can fancy it up or dress it down.

5) On the fence. How does it look buttoned? Belted? I suspect it has some potential...

I'm not a fan of long skirts (and I'm tall so I can wear them). I think it looks fine, but it's not a look I favor. The blue cardi is very nice, especially belted...8

Again, I like the cardi but I think it looks too big on you without the belt. Same rating above if rated. Those jeans are great on you.

The brown tunic and blue cami is great. Definite keepers...8.5

The ivory sweater seems to be a good basic and you wear the color well. Keep this one too...8.5

The color of the cardigan is nice on you, but I feel it may be a tad too big. Can you belt a top underneath or actually belt the jacket itself? J Crew is showing all their jackets belted this season, might be worth trying. As it stands, I give it a 7.

I really like the brown tunic and cream angora sweater. The blue cardi looks great belted. I think that you can do much better than long skirt and brown blazer.

1. The cardi looks good with the belt, the color suits you very well. I'm not sure about the skirt though, it might be too long?

2. The color combos of the brown tunic and blue cami suit you well. I'm neutral on the tunic though.

3. Love, love and love that Towne & Forth sweater. I was so saddened when it was closed. Definitely a keeper!

4. Not sure about the jacket, the style might be dated.

1. I don't think either the skirt or the cardigan flatter you very much.
2. I think maybe the cardigan is just too big... and it's a bit of a dated style.
3. The tunic/cami combo looks EXCELLENT! Very flattering.
4. The white sweater is very flattering as well and is such a good wardrobe basic!
5. The blazer is iffy... looks a bit big and boxy - like it doesn't flatter your figure the best, but it's not terrible. Kind of in between, I guess.

And thanks here too! I bought the skirt because it's great for travel -- you just roll it up in a ball so its small and it's upposed to be wrinkled, hmm crinkled. But I have hardly worn it since I left the job that caused so traveling.

I love the color of the blue cardigan so I'll probably try wearing it belted and see how that feels. It's a medium but it is kind of loose. The jacket seems to look bigger in the photo than it feels on. I'll try it belted and buttoned before making a final decision.

I like the brown tunic and it's been a basic all summer. I often wear it casual black capris and a white cami. I'm glad the white sweater gets approval. I like it but haven't worn it much.

Hmmm you're tall so you could get away with a longer skirt...but what bothers me about this skirt is it seems to be overwhelming you. I'd give the skirt a 6.

The blue cardi also looks big--def. better belted...I'd give it a 7 belted.

Love the white sweater 8.5 You could try some soft color camis under it for some subtle color.

I rather like the jacket. It does look a little loose around the waist, but if that bothers you, maybe you could have it tucked in a little bit. But even the way it is, I like it. I'd give an 8.

Love your smile too! Here’s my 2 cents:

1. I like the skirt length but the skirt isn’t funky. It therefore looks dowdy. Skirts this length have to have funky design detailing. I’ll blog about this later when more of them are in stock.

2. I like the blue cardi belted for skirts. Nice in a boho way. Well done!

3. Sweet brown tunic baby doll. Like how you broke it with the blue.

4. GREAT cream pullover. So pretty! Nice for skirts too. LOVE.

5. The brown jacket is okay. Browns like that are hard to wear when you’re a dark brunette. How do you feel?
