AJ - Skinny Jeans week

I decided that I have been over-thinking what to wear with skinny jeans. So this week I just wore my Express Mia skinnies with what I have in the closet. Comments/CRS welcome.

1) brown Gap baby doll top, white 3/4 sleeve scoop neck Target top, reddish/brownish stone pendant, new Privo brown flats
(this was also an attempt to wear the brown top in cooler weather as a transition piece)

(I think I like this cardigan better over collared, button-down shirts; gives it more structure)

Wow! You look great in skinnies! My favorite is the Target shirt over the white button down--what a terrific look. I think I have something similar in my closet that might work for my skinnies too. Thanks for posting your pics!

AJ - you look great! My faves are #1 & #4 - the red shirt over the white one is very nice on you.

Wow from me too! I am finally over my skinny-jean fear too, so I totally relate. You look great in all the photos. You can rock the skinnies, for sure.

My fav is also #4 - for two reasons: 1) the pop of color (GREAT color on you) and 2) the length of the tops work. It seemed you went shorter and shorter as the week wore on.... ?

This length (#4) works well on you because it makes your legs look endless!

You can wear the tunic length well too.. you're a lucky gal because you are so tall and have long legs.

I may have to give the white shirt with sweater a shot too...

AJ, GREAT week! My favorite is the last one (that red is great on you!). I love the color combination with the leo & sage. I think those jeans are wonderful and you can pretty much wear them with whatever you like. You are looking very smart indeed!

I'm so excited to have an outfit that others want to copy -- please do! I deliberately tried all different length tops this week because I think my lack of confidence has come from not knowing what length top works best with skinny jeans.

AJ, I hear you. I had the same lack of confidence. "Is this blouse to short for skinnies? Does it make me look too hippy?" Which is a particularly silly question for me to even ask, I am the hipless wonder (I wish I had MORE hips).

A skinny jeans question that's also been on my mind: shoes. I have tried them with pointy-toed pumps and somehow the look seems wrong. Skinnies seem to want round-toed pumps or flats, though I have seen pics of women wearing them with pointier shoes, so maybe it's all in my head...

Curious if you (or anyone else) has been pondering that same question yourself?

Ha, lack of confidence seems to be the theme with me as well, especially with skinnies. Now I do have plenty of hips myself, so that makes the matter even worse. I always ponder the same thing whenever I am about to wear skinnies with a shorter top. As for the shoes, I really think that both round and pointy toes should work. The main reason I am yet to wear pointy toed shoes with them is that i don't own any such shoes.

No pointy toed shoes at all? I'm not talking super-pointy... more like a classic shaped pump?

Thanks for the compliment Shiny! I guess i have always felt insecure about them, and I am sort forcing myself to love and except the ways the way I am, but deep down I would always prefer 2" of my hips. *sigh* I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

Most of my shoes are flats or wedges or boots, most of those do not come with pointy toes. I have just one or two pairs of pumps, one is peep-toe and one round, but I hardly ever wear those. Hmm, now that I think about it I do have a pair of pointy-toed black flats that I have actually never worn, even though I like them. I guess I am afraid that they give away that " to dressed up/ trying to hard" vibe in my work environment. Apparently scientists are scared of pointy toed shoes.

Edit: Now I feel bad about hijacking Aj's thread. It should be about how gorgeous she looks in her skinnies. Maybe we should continue our discussion on a new thread.

That's okay -- shoes are another point of insecurity for skinny jeans for me (and thanks for the compliments!). This week I felt that the Privos with narrower rounded toes (and a bit of a heel) looked better than the Merrell's with the wider toes. I have two pair of pumps -- one with narrower square toes and one with narrower rounded toes -- that now I want to try wearing with the skinnies and see how they look. I've only worn the skinny jeans during the day and not "out" so I haven't worn heels with them. I've been looking at the kinds of tops that women wear with their skinny jeans and not looking at their shoes -- something else to spy on.

Hi aj, I too love the red and white combo with your sknnies. Liked all your looks, but that one really popped for me.

I prefer the look of boots with skinnies. But it's not quite boot weather yet, is it?

Hmm, I like both pairs of shoes, and think both of them work with the skinnies. This is exactly what I was saying about how to my eye it seems the round-toe works best (narrower or wider toes). Whether with a heel or flat.

I have never tried Merrell's - are they comfy? I know the Privos are....

Shiny - I bought the Merrell's when I had a bad case of tendonitis in my feet. I had to wear high-end, super supportive inserts. The best thing about the Merrell's is that they have removable insoles; I could take out the originals and put in my inserts. So they've been really comfy for me! I don't remember what the original insoles were like but I think they are supposed to be a comfortable shoe -- they mostly have very casual styles.

Have to agree with the group. Love the red over white ensemble. You are moving out of your comfort zone...and it is paying off bit time. You look more fab with every post.
