AJ Outfits - 9/22 (New Shoes)

I spent most of last week working at home in my "lounge wear" so don't have many photos to post.

Friday I attended the history department's back-to-school BBQ for grad students:
red Martin+Osa cardigan, white sleeveless ATL blouse, white cami, red bead necklace (I think it's by 1928), Jag bootcuts, and NEW charcoal Chuck Taylors

After the BBQ, I dropped into the Seattle H&M store since it's right by campus. I bought this teal cardigan for $20. I'm trying not to buy clothes that are too big, but I am wondering if this is too small. Same outfit as above, just different cardigan (and yellow amber beads) for review:

On Sunday evening, I went with a friend to dinner and to see a band that plays Peruvian/French pop/surf music (I couldn't have made that up -- They were a blast!)

What I actually wore: brown Leo & Sage top, white cami, Joe's bootcuts, brown pumps and the new necklace I had made out of the broken porcelain bead necklace that had been a gift from my parents.

Two outfits I tried on before deciding -- are either of them actually worth wearing in the future?

Nice! Very well done. I like all the outfits you actually wore, plus I love the outfit wtih the white button down under the red Target 3/4 length tee. That one is so fun, great layering and you look super good in that shade of red! Wear it soon

The other one with the red button-down looks a little more like "corporate"; I think it's a fine work outfit but for the dinner/concert you definitely chose the more stylish and fab outfit.
(Just looked at it again and think that a belt in a different color and maybe in a funkier style could transform that outfit into a hip going-out outfit as well.)

You look killer in that Leo and Sage top! I love what you did with the red Target tee. I think calling it a tee is misleading though.

I don't think the new H and M cardi is too small. It fits you well. It's nice to have clothing that has different fits, because some days we like show off what our mommas gave us, and some days we like to cover it all up! heehee

Oh and the Chucks...LOVE 'EM!

And it's worth repeating--you ROCK those Joes jeans!

My favorites were the Leo & Sage tops and the Target 3/4 sleeve (excellent layering!). Maybe on the teal cardi, open up the top 2 buttons, and button the 3&4 buttons to create more waist? I really liked to yellow beads with that one!

You looked wonderful in all the outfits! Try Taffy's suggestion with the buttons on the teal cardi. I don't think it's too small.

I love the Leo & Sage top on you, AJ!
Maybe try a thicker belt over the red button down? And maybe a print like zebra or something? My JCrew personal shopper spent some time with me awhile back trying on various belts in various places, and it's amazing what a difference the size and placement makes.

Thanks, everyone! I do feel like I've made a lot of progress -- mostly due to your help. I'm glad that most of the outfits get a thumbs up! The teal cardigan is cotton so it should fit well over lighter spring/summer/early fall clothes. I really like the color so I wanted it to be a keeper.

My belt collection is practically non-existence. I think I'll take Sarbear's suggestion and go try on a variety of belts and see what works. I like the concept but don't have the knowledge or the actual belts to put it into practice. But I'm glad that my other ideas are working. It feels good to be moving off the "what not to wear" list!

Anne - I'm getting a Ph.D. in Russian and East European history; I specialize in Lithuanian history. It's fairly obscure! I worked for 10 years after getting a master's degree before going back to the Ph.D. program. It's a lot of work but I am really enjoying it. Although I'm in the midst of preparing for my comprehensive exams in October so it's quite stressful right now!

Great job. I love your Jag jeans too. I have a pair on right now but they are a light wash and not PPL, from a couple of years ago, good for around the house. Jag jeans are very comfy with alot of stretch. At least mine are. Do they still make them that way?

Edit: The way you are presenting yourself in this clothing makes me want to know more about you, where you go to school, what you major in. I am not asking these questions, they are private. I'm just saying how a well dress person is so interesting in all aspects.
