We had the absolute best weekend seeing our Swab for the first time since he reported to the US Coast Guard Academy. He boarded the barque Eagle on Saturday in Norfolk, VA and today they set sail to Salem, MA.
It was beyond hot - over 100 degrees both days. At least I was in shorts and this dress all weekend - the Coast Guard dress uniform pants are wool! All in uniform must be under "cover" - wearing their hats - at all times outdoors, and those things are heavy and hot. The third shot is Ben in the work uniform which is cotton, but heavy. Not one Swab or Cadet complained about the heat or discomfort, however, even standing duty and greeting visitors for hours in the blazing sun. All said that it was nothing compared to what they've been through over the past 4 weeks in boot camp!

These are not the most fab pics of the weekend, but I posted the link to this dress last week so here are a couple of shots. I give it an A+ for being event-appropriate! Looking at the pics, I actually don't love it from the front -feels a little dowdy - although the back is really really cute, too bad my backpack is covering most of it. I think it could be shorter, but I'm not investing any more $$ since I had it altered already.

Happy to be posting from the A/C today!
