Advice please! Bangs or no bangs? Update

Help me decide! I think I want bangs. I have longish medium thickness wavy hair. I am very low maintenance but I can style my hair using a Chi or a curling wand and am fine with needing to style bangs. I also wear my hair up in a ponytail, bun or braids often so I think bangs would be nice. Here is a pic of me with no makeup and just air dried hair. Please give your honest opinion and I would love any specific suggestions on styles or length! Thank you!

Also if anyone can help me figure out my face shape that would help a lot! I am stumped. Oval?

I think you'd look great with long bangs a la Zooey Deschanel! I had similar longish bangs cut last year and really like the way they dress up ponytails/brainds/etc. Your face shape looks oval to me.

I think bangs would look so cool on you! You do seem to have a pretty oval face and your forehead looks like it has the right amount of height to be great with bangs. You're fortunate in that you look wonderful without them as well. You have the face and hair to pull off all kinds of looks beautifully!

I agree with everyone about your lovely oval face looking wonderful with bangs. I appreciate the air dried picture, and think we have the same texture hair, so i did want to offer a word of caution. Bangs were too high maintenance for me. Mine never just fell into place, and if I heat styled just the bangs, it made the rest of my hair look frizzy instead of wavy. So they took a lot more time out of my daily routine, not to mention the more frequent trims required to keep them at just the right length. Plus I hated the way they stuck to my skin when i got sweaty - say from a night out dancing. =) But I don't have your perfect oval face. I think you should go talk to a stylist - even the inexpensive chain ones will be able to advise you - and go for it as long as you are prepared to go short all over to grow them out if you don't like them. Experiment and have fun!

Yes, I think bangs would look great on you. They'll be a fun change. I can picture them on you like the photo to the left and near the top of you Pinterest board. I don't think it's Zoey D; she's not identified. Those bangs look slightly layered and side-swept, which I think would work nicely on you.
I have wavy/curly hair and I just got bangs cut within the last year. If mine don't lay right after drying my hair with the diffuser, I use a brush and blow-dry just the bangs, to straighten them a little. They're not as much trouble as I thought they might be.

Go for it. It's a fun, dramatic way to change up your look if you are open to the maintenance. They grow out from blunt to side swept to "sheepdog" pretty fast, at least with straight hair. This means an extra trip to the salon at least monthly. It's not as easy as hair without bangs. No more wash and wear if you have that now. I flat iron mine every day and i already have straight hair! Make sure you go to a stylist that specializes in cutting curly hair.

Bangs are a classic and have been around since recorded history of hair. You have quite a long face and bangs would diminish the length of your face. Typically a long face has a high forehead, and you are typical, and when the bangs cover it, the face is shortened with the illusion of more width to the face. A blunt bang would give you a strong, trendier look. It is a perfect cut for your face. Go for it!!

I think you would look great with bangs! I would recommend not going with heavy, straight bangs for your first foray into it -- I also have wavy hair (which used to be thicker, more like yours looks), and IMHO, heavy bangs with wavy hair can be unruly and feel annoyingly heavy on the forehead. I'd try a lighter sideswept fringe. Even on days when I let my hair air dry and go wavy, I still take the blow dryer to my bangs just to shape them a little bit, and they're pretty easy to control that way.
