a true trend?

I feel like the Rag & Bone cricket sweater that annagybe spotted last year for me is the one true trend I've seen in years. I'm seeing these knock-off sweaters everywhere I look, in every store.

...true trend in the high-school sense, in that it's a pretty singular thing that's become ubiquitous: a cricket sweater. It's not, for example, just "long v-neck jumpers."

Except one thing - I'm still the only person IRL I've seen wearing one.

I just ask because I'm trendy at heart and I need a fashion trend like the sartorial-version of Rubik's Cube or Candy Crush. Hehe. Except I'm serious.

Generally a fringe trending item, but part of the overall unstoppable HUGE Sporty Luxe trend. (Cricket = Sport).

Not sure if it's a true trend, Rachy, but H&M is currently doing a few as well, and if I find that the below one fits me well, I'll be sporting it soon

You reminded me of the Benetton rugby shirts that were a huge thing in my grade 6 class - as in, over 50% of the class had the exact. same. shirt. Even for kids I don't feel like trends are quite so specific any more? There seems to be so much more availability and subtly different takes on things, thanks to fast fashion. Soon after that people started doing different teen subculture looks, so nothing was ever so universal again. Apparently there were knock-offs of these, but they would not have cut it in my school - it was Benetton, or bust.

I feel like the deep vee of the rag and bone version is also a play on the chevron trend.

Banana Republic has done one as well. I like it but it's quite long and they didn't do a petite version.

kimmy - Have to tell you, I find it a very versatile thing. One of my best buys last year.

rachylou, I didn't know that cricket sweaters were a trend--mostly
because I haven't been able to keep up with all the trends--but I do
LOVE them. I have a thing for contrasting stripes, V-necks, ribbed knits, and for
items that have a bit of a preppy or uniform flavor. I see Uniqlo has an
affordable version... I am very tempted, except that this one is hi-lo and I am not quite sold on this whole hi-low hem thing.

Hey, I was just in Uniqlo and didn't see that sweater. Of course, I was looking for a plain, brick red cardigan. I've seen cricket sweaters at Ross, Marshall's, and online at Nasty Gal. Oh and a really odd one at BR (too many stripes).

I like hi-lo - covers the butt, lol.

back in the mid 80's when i worked for the gap, they did a verision of this sweater, l wish i still had it! love.love.loved it. wore it with royal blue carpenter pants!

I'd almost forgotten about school trends that hit like an epidemic. In 6th grade it was Simpsons shirts. I remember one Field Day I counted and half the boys in the class were wearing them. Then it was Gap hooded pullovers made of tshirt-weight cotton. It felt like every girl in my class owned one (I saved up for my own, in lavender). Gap started selling those again this year, 25 years later, and it was so funny to see them!

I haven't been around middle-school-aged kids in years, but I would have guessed that sort of adolescent lemming behavior is still there. Probably adults are just less prone to it, and older teens have more sense of their own individual style. Or has it really changed now that the internet makes everything global and instant?

Good grief, Rachylou, now you have me admiring this sweater and thinking, ooooh, maybe. . .. And I'm fairly certain I'd look ridiculous in it. Ha ha ha! It's a very appealing look, though.
