A true need has arisen....

My faithful black boots finally gave out. They are Rockports and were just perfect basic waterproof boots. I bought them locally only because they were a great deal on sale, and they ended up being my go-to boots for the last five years. The sole finally fell off yesterday!

So I am on the dreaded hunt for a pair of black boots. My vintage ones are a little too funky to be all-purpose. I'd like:

Shaft height between 11 - 13
low to mid-heel
zip entry
basic style (love the Rorys but too hard to get on and off)
narrow calf but wide feet

I've combed through Zappos and Endless. Any ideas?

Hm, I got my last pair from Piperlime, and I liked their service. I will also suggest footsmart.com, as their focus is comfy shoes in a variety of widths (footbed-wise, at least; I've not had to look for calf widths myself). I've heard good things about duo boots for narrow calves, though.

I have these and love them, but they're very casual and the shaft circumference might not work for you. They gape a bit on me, but then again, mine are size 10, so maybe the shaft will be smaller in your size.

Given you do have a lot of requirements, here's my advice, worth price charged:

Get them resoled (assuming it's do-able) WHILE you look.

I went through the same thing last year and decided spending $50 (resole of heavily treaded bottom + the usual annual re-heel) wasn't worth it. Bought new boots, left old ones in closet because oooh I couldn't commit to ditching.

Fast-forward a year -- realized old ones were more comfortable than (bought-for-comfort and not bad) replacements and still filled a hole as replacements weren't identical. Got old ones retreaded, lived happily ever after with them back in rotation.

I really don't think you'll regret having your old favs around before/after new ones arrive...but if you do, you can donate them. Good luck!
