A Time For Blazers - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Ladies,

I had a wonderful weekend and hope the same for all of you.

Here in India, we have a short window of time to wear blazers. Summers are too warm for that extra layer; winters get too cold for just a blazer.

I have 2 Blazers I adore but have rarely worn last 2 winters because I can't layer under them (they don't have enough room to fit a sweater underneath). On Saturday I was out for a lunch & movie date with my husband and decided to wear a blazer. On Sunday I had to attend a birthday lunch and decided to go with a blazer again

#1 - 3: Maroon blazer wore over a white flowy top and blue jeans. The necklace is my 'festive' touch. A simple outfit, it was just right for my casual date.

#4-6: I'm wearing a tan top, blue bootcuts and a brown tweed blazer. Since brown is not my best color, I added a printed scarf in the hope that it'll brighten up my face (pic #6 shows the outfit without the scarf). Did it work?

You look very chic in your date outfit! Bet hubby loved it. Maroon suits you so well.

You look rather British in your tweed (says a Brit :)) hehe...The bootcuts and pointy toed shoes look good with it. I think a long necklace might work with this too if you don't wear the scarf.

Love the first outfit -- classic and chic! You look very pretty. The second outfit looks very autumnal and it must feel great to wear when you get a short window for blazers.

Here it is very short for them to be worn as outerwear, but you can also wear them in winter underneath a coat. That is what I do.

I've determined I must be an "every season but winter" blazer-wearer. Although not quite true--just the right blazer might layer over and under and provide extra insulation & sleeve-filling (helps coat be warmer) in the coldest weather.
I'm so cold natured that I can wear the right blazer in summer (indoors in A/C) when others are in short sleeves.

I almost bought a very warm woolen pink blazer but hesitated, and it was gone. Then I realized that, as you say, I'd seldom be able to wear it mid-winter.
I did make an exception for my warm camel-hair blazer because it's so versatile a color, it therefore has the possibility of lots of wears, tossing it on whenever the temps are favorable.

Love the first outfit. I prefer the second outfit without the scarf. I think the combination of the floral and the tweed is a bit old fashioned on you. I would personally prefer a necklace or a plain scarf in a vibrant colour to lift the brown tones of the outfit. But you can make anything look good

I love the burgundy blazer over that lovely floaty blouse and pearls. It's a lovely date outfit. The second outfit is also very chic and pretty on you, more of a classic, daytime look. The scarf does liven up the outfit and your face; those colors are gorgeous on you.

For everyone who suggested I wear a coat over the Blazers, I'd like to explain why that never happens in India. Most building here are not heated. While we have artic cooling for summers, we have no heating anywhere as our winters are not very cold. Temperatures go down to 4-8 deg C and will dip down to 2 deg C too, but only for a few days. In general, our winters are rather short and it's very cold for no more than a month (January being the coldest).

Hence, there is no 'taking off the coat' once you reach your final destination. Most offices aren't heated either; most have free standing oil heaters or blowers for the really cold days, as do homes.

Now if you're wondering why we Indians feel the cold enough to have very warm winter wear - our average temperatures run 35 deg C to 48 deg C for our long summer that lasts from March to November. Temperature going down into single digits is cold for us! Even now, the temperature varies from 26 deg C to 12 deg C. It's not cold enough for woolens even now

Oh, and also, most of us here don't walk to anyplace. Most people use a car to go 'anywhere' in India. But many people also use motorcycles or two-wheelers (including my husband, who is a hardcore biker boy). Those people do have a thick puffer or parka they wear over office wear and take off at their destination.

I do walk for fitness everyday and I wear similar outerwear for that. When I wear my smart coats, they stay on once I reach my final destination.

I like these on you--such a different look to see you in a blazer! I'm especially partial to the tweed. Don't you love items you only get to wear for a short time? Makes them so much fun to wear as we're less likely to get tired of them!

I love a blazer as a third piece (topper), and you've done a great job her by contrasting the structure of the jacket with a flowing, simple top. I'm particularly found of blazers with some stretch in the fiber -- for comfort and ease of movement.
