Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

A few new dresses, CRS please

I picked up quite a few dresses over the weekend. I'm trying to branch out more and play with my look a bit. So if these get nays all around it won't hurt my feelings at all. ;)

After taking and viewing the photos, my opinions have certainly changed on almost everything. Thanks!

I really like four out of the six dresses. I'm unsure of the first and fifth dress the rest I adore. I don't really know why I'm unsure of the first dress but I feel the fifth dress is maybe a little too mature for you.

My favourite look is the second dress, I would wear it tomorrow, with the beret as well. Dress number six is coming in a very close second.

GAH I LOOOOOVE the Alice + Olivia dress!! Are you wearing a turtleneck under it?

The DVF dress' proportions are weird to me...I'm not sure what it is, but it seems almost big for your or something.

The sweater dress is great and a definite keeper. It's so versatile! Also, your sequined beret is awesome. Not too over the top at all!

I'm not in love with the Tory Burch one. It seems a little...lifeless? I'm not sure what it is, but it doesn't seem quite right to me.

Totally fabulous finds! You look great. :)

Sarah,
My faves on you are #2(MaxStudio) and #6(Taylor). Both look great on you, and should get a lot of wear this fall/winter.
#3(A+O) is a fun dress for going out: sure can't beat the price! I'm sure you will come up with lots of cool vening looks.
#4(Tory Burch) and #5(Taylor) are too "old" for a hip young lady like yourself!
Not sure about #1(DVF). It's cool, but maybe a little bit long on you?

1. DVF: very unique and I love it as is (with the leggings and pumps). I'm not so fond of the back view with the jacket.

2. Oooooh Sarah, how very Parisian!! I squealed when I saw those two pictures. KEEP, the beret too!-)

3. Alice + Olivia: very unusual as well with the sequins. Maybe a tad on the short side? I like how you've styled it in the picture and would love to see it with jeans and a leather jacket (or boots and leggings)

4. Tory Burch: I'm not sure about this one (maybe the detailing in the front?). I'll leave this to the other lasses.

5. Taylor: The leggings and blazer look a bit stark against the light dress in my opinion. Not sure how to make it into more of a "day dress". Maybe a monochrome look with a long cascading cardigan/bofriend cardigan and skinny jeans. Or something with tall boots?

6. Taylor: Yes!-)

How *do* you do it Sarah??! You always manage to find such unique and fun dresses. And I love your sense of adventure and the way you are experimenting with different looks.

Where do you find such amazing resell shops? Fab finds!

#6 is my favorite. So elegant and it seems like it's really your style. I really like #2 as well... very European.

I actually really like the Tory Burch dress! Very unique and I think it looks expensive and looks great on you. I like her designs in general. But I'm no expert!

I love the second, third and sixth dress!

Well Sarah, this is a first for YLF. On thread, six frocks, all 10’s. KILLER rating from start to finish. How does THAT make you feel?

I love them all. You were meant to wear dresses.

OMG you look amazing in all of the dresses and the hat.

WOW...I love them all really but that last dress by Taylor.....Amazing on you!!!:)

I agree.. Love all the dresses.
My favorites are 6, 3, 2
As to 1 and 5 they look lovely with the boyfriend blazer but not with black leggings.. I think the contrast is too much...
The grey one .. is gorgeous, but I don't like with black leggins..

Sarah, you are such a pro at picking dresses for your body. I tell myself "Watch and learn". You look amazing from the first to the last outfit. Fantastic!

Sarah, great finds...I would say #s 1, 2, 3 & 6 are all 9-10. I would give #4 & #5 a 7. You really do have a knack for picking great dresses! On the first one, when you wear it with the blazer, is there anyway to tuck the ends of the sash up a little so they don't hang down below the line of the blazer? Just a thought...

Thank you everyone for all of your comments! I figure if I don't take risks, I'll never learn and grow.
I'm definitely keeping the Taylor dress (#6). It is a bit roomy in the bust area, but the smaller size was too tight on my hips. Surprise. ;)
I'm keeping the Max Studio sweater dress and the Alice + Olivia dress for sure.
I think I'm going to take back the Tory Burch dress. Something about the bottom half is just odd to me, but I don't know what.
I'm super curious as to why you like the DVF and the silver dress on me, Angie. Do you (or anybody else) have suggestions for how to wear them other than what I did for the photo?
Dani, if I do wear the DVF with a jacket, I'd definitely tuck under the tie belt somehow.
As for how do I find things like this?
Our TJMaxx is hit or miss for me. I either do reallyreally well or don't find a thing. This time I went with Ana, so her advice plus great finds equals a win for me.
And Buffalo Exchange is the same. I either find oodles of goodies or walk away empty handed. I think with the economy the way it is, people are selling more nice things, and even shops are selling there. I love wearing second hand things. The whole concept of reusing makes me happy.

I agree that all the dresses are awesome. Since you asked I'd say #3,6 are 10 and the rest are 9. Definitely at least keep 2 and 6. The rest seem like they are less practical, though so I'd just keep 3 as well and spend the money on some other goodies.

Wow! All killer ratings! The only two I thought were questionable were #4 and #6. Otherwise, all amazing! The DVF looks best without a jacket - it's sooooo pretty!

Okay, one more shot at the DVF, what do you think about this look? I need different shoes and a necklace, but if the dress has potential I want to keep it. I have to decide by tomorrow.
Thanks everyone!

Oohh, Sarah! Love that look! How did you make your own necklace? I'm dabbling in making my own necklaces (like I really need another hobby). Now, where are you going to have your husband take you so you can sport this look? :)

The second DVF look is gorgeous Sarah!! I could also see it paired with a fitted denim jacket, and maybe a boyfriend cardigan or a not too voluminous cascading cardigan, perhaps even a waistcoat. What do you think?

Posted 1 month ago

Dani, I didnt' make the necklace. I thought I"d have to make a bib look alike for the photo, but I just used this Target necklace. It's from one of their designers last year.
I think I'm going to try it with tights, booties, and my cropped leather jacket. But at least I know it has potential and I won't return it. It's not practical, but I'm okay with that. I'm sure I"ll have opportunity to wear it. It's classic, so it won't go out of style tomorrow.

I want to go shopping for dresses with you, Sarah! Wow, what a collection!
I would keep all but Tory Burch one. And please keep the beret. You look adorable wearing it.

What a great collection of dresses. I am late to the party but I just wanted to add that it is great to see you experiment with different cuts, shapes, fabrics. very inspirational!
