Having spent my entire life unable to wear tall or even mid calf boots because of my very slim calfs I resorted to the Internet although I have always been wary of ordering footwear unseen. I discovered there appears to be very few companies providing boots to fit those of us with very skinny legs. I decided not to go for the company that designs boots to fit specific ankle measurements, as well as the calf, as I thought this added a further risky parameter. I chose Duo Boots http://www.duoboots.com and read the feedback comments regarding the experiences of others about fit. My boots arrived on New Year’s Eve, just in time for a party! I had low expectations regarding fit and quality so I didn’t get too excited but I was in for a wonderful surprise. The boots had arrived within a few days of ordering (from within the UK) and p & p had been an acceptable £5.00 and they were nicely packed. The boots are a beautiful brown leather, pleasantly lined and even the side zip looks good quality, with the makers name embossed on the tab. I tried the boots on nervously but they were a perfect fit around the calf – a totally new experience for me! I had measured my calf at 33 cm. The nearest size in the boots I chose was 34 cm. I am pleased I went for this size because clearly an allowance for movement is not allowed when giving the exact size of your calf. The extra centimetre means the boot fits comfortably and can also be worn with skinny jeans. The ankle appears a tiny bit wide for me, but I wanted a fairly straight look and I don’t mind a little sagging, because that will suit the style of the boot and of course the proportion of the boot looks different because I am used to seeing the shape widen out a good deal more, especially as I take a size English 7, European 40. The length of the foot area was also perfect, but because of the tapered style of my choice, they could be tight on wider feet – my feet are very narrow. I added leather innersoles for more comfort. Overall I am delighted with my boots and I cannot stop trying them on and looking in the mirror to see no gaping chasm around my calf. Whereas elasticised boots (when available) just made my legs look even more scrawny, these boots look really elegant.
