Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

2 voluminous tops

I only had one voluminous (banded) top in my closet, so high time to get a few more. I love how they feel, but do they look good?-)

Also: all suggestions for accessorizing are very welcome, I need to get some more jewellery...

Bright teal short-sleeved top (the necklace is just a tad too long and the denim skirt is doing odd things)

Heather grey sleeveless top (the teal necklace is brighter than it appears in the picture)

I'm envious! You pull off volume so well. I love both tops on you.

I agree, a slightly shorter necklace would be perfect with the teal top. I don't like it with the denim skirt - it's too loose or boxy or something? A slimmer skirt or slim clams would be great with this.
The grey top with jeans looks great. I'd love some yellow in that outfit somewhere. Do you wear yellow?

I LOVE that gray top with jeans!! I like the length and style of the necklace you have with it. I like Asha's suggestion of yellow. Also, I wonder if some other bright jewel tones like blue or red would work.

I really like the blue top as well, but I agree with Asha that a slimmer skirt or clams might work a bit better. Can the shirt be belted? Or would that cause too much bunching of the fabric?

With that color blue I'm drawn to silver accessories. Maybe a long silver necklace?

Thank you Asha!

I've already had the denim skirt taking in at the bottom, but maybe I should just give up on it and try to find a better one?
I've been looking for a cute grey one too, no luck yet.
By the way: I've never tried clams before, they scare me a little;-) I agree though that voluminous tops and clams work especially well together.

I love grey with yellow, yellow is not my best colour though (see comments on the dress over jeans thread too). But I just bought that pendant Shiny found for me. And I'd love a cute pair of yellow shoes or a fun yellow bag. And I'm not saying no to all yellow tops either (Laura looked great in that pale yellow one and we wear similar colours well).

Violet: we're thinking along the same lines. The grey needs accessories in a bright colour. And I love blue and red (green and purple too), it's just a matter of finding the right necklace;-)

The blue (to me it's more a tealish green;-) top is quite voluminous. I haven't tried belting it yet (still a novice in that department), but I'll certainly give it a go.

I love silver jewellery and could really use a long silver necklace. Good point. I think a somewhat chunkier style would be best right? Otherwise you probably won't even see it.

Inge,
You wear volume very well, I also love the second outfit, not sure about the skirt.
I think I am convinced that necklaces need to be on the skin only, or with very high plain neckline or dramatically long. The in between or falling somewhere on the neckline of the top never works for me. I love the length on the second necklace. I can picture you in a long thin silver chain with something unique like old coins attached. Large hoops with no necklace might work but not sure if that is your look. I love when you post!!!

Oooh I LOVE that gray top! Agree that it could use something bright to punch it up. I just find that shade of gray needs something else or it gets a bit flat. But the shape, length, and drape are perfect. And I know this is old news but I can't tell you how awesome those jeans look on you!

Is the teal top strictly skirt length or or is it just bunched up to be skirt length? I'm not sure if I'm sold on this specific top as a skirt option. I have seen voluminous tops with pencil skirts but something about this combination is off. Not sure if it's the top or the skirt. Both seem to fit well and look good but the combination is making you appear boxy, which you are not.

I love your second outfit, Inge! The top is flattering on you, and drapes nicely. For accessories, maybe multiple long (20+") chains in a bright metallic.

I like the teal top, but agree with the others that the skirt doesn't work. To me, the interface between top and skirt seems to hit at the widest point of your body -- and you all know that having a horizontal line there is not a great idea. I'd experiment with how high or low you can make the top, or just try it with different bottoms.

Great, great, great sleeveless grey top. This is so your color. Very amazing on you! Can we see the teal top again, maybe with jeans, so we can give it a fair review? It seems the consensus was that the skirt wasn't working with it.

Looks like you're going to be doing a bit of accessories/jewelry shopping ... how fun, wish I could go with you!

KILLER grey banded top. LOVE everything about it! It’s simply perfect. Are those your new jeans? KILLER too. (Aren’t you stocking up on “killers” today :0))

Love the teal top too! Gorgeous colour on you. Now, does it have a band like the grey style? Or is it elasticized? Love the flutter sleeves. You wear volume extremely well. YES! At last! More volume on this forum. Soooooooo, unlike the lasses, I think it totally works with your pencil skirt. But I want to see the hem! Think you can take another picture? Pretty please.

Inge I really like both of those tops. Agree that they don't quite work with the skirt. The teal is a gorgeous colour - so striking!!!

I'm super chuffed that everyone likes the grey top with the new jeans. This was quite the weekend... I'm still floating on air after reading all your positive feedback and I can't thank you enough!!
(You were right about the skirt and the teal top, but that has been remedied - see my reshoot thread;-)

Jean: We're definitely on the same wavelength regarding necklace length (although I've seen Shiny and Violet pull off a mid-length one amazingly well - maybe it has something to do with height as well?). I don't know if large hoops are for me, but I love your suggestion for the long necklace. I'd love to find something unique like that. Thank you!

Maya: SO glad that you like the jeans. They're my best purchase this year (well, it's only May of course;-) I feel fantastic in them, and they are very comfortable to boot.

Cciele: I love the multiple long chains suggestion too. I have a limited jewellery collection at the moment, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for something like that.

Laura: Oooh yes, we would have a ball!

Angie: All your killer ratings made my weekend (well, it's Wednesday now, and I'm still grinning like an idiot;-) It just feels incredible to know that you look good. This has been such a confidence booster. Thank you!! (and yep, these are the new jeans, and I think they look pretty great too;-)

Tam: I was a bit hesitant at first, I'm not used to wearing colours this bright, but now I'm very happy that I took the plunge.

Thank you again everyone!
