Hello All,

I came across an interesting concept while looking for stylish travel outfits for a trip this coming August (more on that later). The concept is to stick to 10 (or less) clothing items for a month (not including undergarments thankfully, accessories or work uniforms). So for June, I am going to try this concept. I like the idea of keeping it very simple and being creative with self-imposed austerity. What are your thoughts about this and if you have an outfit suggestion, please post! (BTW, I took photos of each article of clothing, but not on me...just easier as I have no full length mirror yet). I have still yet to take photos of my accessories and will post photos of my in my outfits as I try them.

Some of the members here did a 30 for 30 challenge, including shoes I believe. It was great to see what they came up with. I would pick 10 for a week of travel maybe, but I like variety too much to limit my daily wardrobe to 10 items.
I'd like to see #4 over #5, topped by #8

It's a bit cold and wet here in the San Francisco Bay area today so I am going with #7 over #5 jeans and #8 accessorized by beige cowboy boots, my le sportsac in black and multi-colored scarf. Since I'm on dear husband's computer, I will up load a photo when I've switched out the laptops (different OS's means resetting the modem until I go get a router - yes, I'm also CIO in our household).

I am totally in awe, I couldn't manage 10 items for a month!! It might be helpful with holiday packing though x

Wow, 10 for the whole month?! I suppose if you have a variety of fun accessories and shoes, it may not be too bad. Please keep us posted as you go along.

How about 7,3, and 1 with belt, scarf and boots/booties?

10 and 1 with strappy flats and long edgy/rocker necklace or studded crossbody bag?

4 & 1 with metallic heels and statement earrings?

I'm fascinated by the idea of 10 pieces for a month. The whole Wardrobe Capsule idea really appeals to me, but I have yet to try it. I'm anxious to hear how this goes for you!

I think it's a brilliant concept, as long as you are generous with your shoes, bags, scarves etc. And I personally wouldn't count your trench as 1 of the 10, as it's outerwear? It will be great to start this, not so much to see if you can stay with the 10, but to see what your learnings are from the exersize, if that makes sense?

What do you think of throwing in one 'challenge' piece to the mix? A closet orphan, or a 'loud' item, a bright colour? Not for your vacation, but just for the at-home trial......just a thought :).

Thank you all for your support. It really helps. Still have to get my outfit photo done from yesterday (6/1 - got caught up with dear husband's project and studying for a landscaping license to help our business as well as work my pearl jewelry business which I started in April - getting laid off has opened some opportunities!).

Lynne - good point! Guess I can count that as outer wear and add another piece. Perhaps something out of left field...will give it some thought and let you know.

#4 is a top I found at Tar-zhay on sale. I just love the indigo color and the ruching helps cover the bit o' belly (that I am working on slimming down

Patty - you are well ahead of the curve friend! I think the concept is great which is why I am trying it out. (not that I'm going to get rid of my extra stuff now, just want to focus in more on the how to do this. There are things I should get (ie higher quality items) and things I should let go. Right now I have 9 or 10 white tops, either button downs or pull overs.

Krishnidoux - oh, please do give it a spin...it would be great to compare notes.

Yellow Girl - give it a try, then you and Krishnidoux and I can see what works and what doesn't.

This is a great idea but do you count your at home, lounge and on the go clothes? I feel like I go through 10 items of clothing each day between work, OTG with kids, and then at home lounging with the dogs. I would have a difficult time making this work. I like the idea of having 10 perfect items of clothing that can be mixed and matched though. I think others who have done 6 items or less didn't count outerwear.

Scarves - photos aren't great, but you'll get the idea. I have more than these 4, but in the interest of my experiment, I'm keeping to these for most of the time. (I love scarves!)

Modgrl, I use these for almost all my activities except for my part time job and if I have to measure a landscape area for my DH (work jeans) and lounging/sleep wear. If we had children, then it may be difficult to do this (we don't ;-( ). No pets of yet (we're looking for a chihauhau or rat terrier to add to our household.

Stacy Jo, I cannot wait to see that first scarf in action - what beautiful colours! I can see it being a great 'mixer'. I might join you in your 10 item challenge, with the caveat that dog-walking clothes are separate.

Lynne - great! An of course, doggie walking clothes are separate. Would love to see your capsule. I really like the scarf #1 as well. It says "Hermes Paris" but it's not (the edging is not hand finished, but a nicely done machine stitch - I picked it up at a consignment shop in Oakland).

Tomorrow is a pickle for my outfit. I'm going to do measurements on a potential client's property, picking up a rear end for our '62 Ranchero truck (could get greasy) and doing a small repair on another client's patio requiring a lovely mixture of mortar and glue. Ideally, I'd want to go with 6, 2 and 8 but I'm thinking it will be work jeans, hiking boots, outdoor jacket and a t-shirt...but I could get away with scarf #1

So, after 4 days of mainly being in work clothes (helping hubby and part time job) its Tuesday. Rather drap, cold and drizzly day here in Oakland. Definitly a jeans kind of day with my black trench (not shown yet). Hard to believe it's June, feels more like January. I evny you all who are basking in sun! So are my tomato plants

I have always loved these challenges, I'm not sure why because it is difficult, but it is fun forcing the creativity to come out. I recently put together a capsule for spring/summer/travel specifically for a trip that you might find interesting.

I had such compulsive fun putting it together and had way over the ten items you are limiting yourself to. It's nice to have all the photo's now so that I don't forget what I put together.

I love seeing your photos and you have some great pieces to work with. I really love all the scarves too!
