What a sweet surprise to return tonight to so many kind comments and great suggestions.
Sara, yellow or pink in the right saturation sound like they would be fun to try with the turquoise skirt. Great idea for spring....if I can wait that long. It may be a great way to brighten up January too.
JR, that bag has a small cheetah or leopard print and has been great for print mixing. MaryK is on to something with leopard as a neutral! I love your scarf solutions and will definitely try your suggestion of a striped Breton T-shirt with a navy blazer for winter. I have a wool navy boyfriend type blazer that i hope will work. Thank you for the idea!
Inge, you are a darling! I love your suggestions and may even be able to some up with most of the pieces from my closet, although the burgundy or bordeaux topper may end up being more of a bittersweet dark red-orange. None of those ideas had occurred to me.

A few more ideas for the turquoise skirt (love the other lasses' suggestions):

- pair it with a denim shirt and animal print booties
- an ink-blue sweater
- burgundy or bordeaux top or jacket

I think you've done a brilliant job of Autumn-izing the turquoise with the brown, what a beautiful colour combination, and your accessories are exactly right.

That is a nice interpretation, Joy. For the scarf, try folding it in a bias fold, knotting the ends, and just wearing it half-folded. I wore one that way in my Almost all black to the art museum WIW. Or tie it the same way and loop it around twice to make a short-ish infinity loop. It's very easy to hide the knot at the back if you tie it close enough to the ends, which you would want to do so as not to shorten it too much. Or do a variation of your knotted scarf as necklace. Seeing as this scarf is bigger, you would probably want to twist it a bit before knotting it so the bias fold doesn't gap open, but just a bit, so the knot will lie flat.

I could also see this skirt with white (or cream) and navy. Perhaps a striped Breton T-shirt with a navy blazer for winter.

And is that a leopard-print purse I see? ;o)

I recently learned on one of the scarf sites, Maitai's?, that it's more current for the two scarf ends not to line up. In other words, tie it so that one end is obviously lower than the other...details, details, details

Thank you , Harmonica and Ingunn
AK, the belt detail attracted me too. It usually gets worn with different textures of brown including brown snake flats and those might also work with this outfit.
Suz, I now own several of the older version Halogen seamed pencil skirts, all in regular length, size 2. The regular length has been listed as 22 or 23 inches. My shortest ideal length that hits right on the knee is 23", but I like pencil skirts at 24" or at the bottom of the knee. I ask that they let the hem out all the way (they add a facing) and they come out just where I want them. The petite were too short even on my 5'3". I especially like the length a bit longer when sitting down in a slim skirt.

Jules, the total look will be very bright with this skirt and the orange blazer, but I think it will work. I suppose a white shirt under the blazer would be the best choice?

Celia, those first pictures are darker than the outfit actually looks. I need to find a daylight lit place to take photos. The lst photo was taken in daylight.
I will need to play with that scarf. It is like a big square cotton bandana, so not very long when folded on the bias. Maybe I should just let it drape.

turquoise and chocolat brown are a beautiful combination. On my screen the frirst pictures look too dark on top compared to bottom but in #3 the details and colors of the scarf make the outfit come together.
I like the idea of loosening the scarf a little bit.

Joy, I love the rich and subtle colour combinations you have going on here. I do not think it looks dated, although perhaps you could play around with the scarf a bit to "loosen" the effect a bit. I am not sure what to suggest since I'm pretty poor at scarf-tying.

Is this a petite skirt that you had lengthened (i.e. hem let down)? I am wondering if I should do the same with my Halogen skirt. And how I envy you finding one of last year's models. Apparently the fabric is much nicer than this year's. I predict you will find many ways to wear this even if it feels difficult to style right now.

The Halogen seamed pencil skirt on Rack clearance in turquoise was something I just couldn't pass up recently. It just got back from alterations where the hem was let out, and I was keen to wear it. The color screams summer, so this is an attempt to make a November friendly outfit adding chocolate.
I think this is lacking something ..
It was raining so I wore a black trench over this.
I'd welcome your comments and suggestions for improving this outfit as well as other ideas for styling the skirt. The bright turquoise is proving harder to style than I thought it would be.
Skirt: Halogen seamed pencil (older version I think)
Top: ancient silk knit Kasper ASL mock turtle
Belt: Anne Klein from estate sale
Shoes: Born Mary janes
Scarf: old favorite RL
Bag: thrifted Fossil cheetah print fabric
Does any of this look too dated?
