Just wanted to say thankyou for everyone for their responses (I lost internet access for a week soon after beginning the thread)
It was very reassuring to know my pink T-shirt passes muster (hey is that just an aussie expression?)
Shiny, I like the second of your links a great deal too, although as Maya pointed out, I am in the wrong country to actually buy it. Can always look out.

Nicole I bought the sleeves mock top years ago and I haven't seen many styles like that - but I will look out for them

Thanks for comments re slimness! I can only wear that purple skirt at the most advantageous times of the month (it is acutally the last garment I ever made myself, and dates pre-kids) which is probably why I look slimmer. Most skirts, including the denim have moments of being too big

I agree with everyone and do not have much to add. I prefer the second top. You are looking really beautiful!!

I really like both outfits a lot, Anne. (and I'm happy to see you in some more delicate sandals!)

I wouldn't really consider either of those tops "tee shirts". To me, a tee shirt has just as much to do with the shape and fit of the shirt, as it does the fabric.

You look amazingly slim in both outfits, especially the second one. Any chance of you duplicating that sleeveless mock t-neck in some more colors? I think that's a really great look on you.

It's very pretty. Way out of my budget and not appropriate at all for my lifestyle, but pretty!

Unfortunately I don't think it helps Anne since she is in Australia. Good inspiration though.

Shiny, I love that second BR cowl neck top! I've also developed a cowl neck addiction this past year. But you are definitely the cowl neck queen - you should definitely add to your collection. I love the sisal one - need to stalk it to see if it goes on sale. I have the same issue when I wear some cardigans with a cowl neck (and I am definitely well endowed) . I think it's more of an issue with this type where the cowl parts starts at the shoulder rather than just at the neck.

Yesterday I hit BR and their new monogram line has a few great skirt top choices. They aren't knits - they are luxurious silk fabrics, with a hint of stretch. Price is high but if they go on sale I may snap up a few. I tried on these two:

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....d=OUT14149

and

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/.....d=OUT14133

The second one is shown tucked in, but it is definetly skirt length like the first. (and I tried on the regular because they don't come in petites). Everyone knows I love cowl necks, so I am very tempted to get both the sisal and the blue, if they go on sale. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that when you pop a cardi or other layer over, the cowl kinda bunches up funny. I think this is because the top would be perfection for someone more endowed than I am.... (Nicole, Maya.... are you reading this??)

Anne, these may not be the best choice for your lifestyle right now, but I can vouch that these are very breezy and would be quite cool for hot summer days.

You are looking SO skinny, Anne!

First of all, that’s not a basic T-shirt – it’s a very casual knitted top probably in basic T-shirt fabric. The silhouette looks good with the skirt. It passes the test :-)

I like the second top on you too. Keep.

I think your second top is a good one to go with skirts. It seems like a good length for you and would layer well under a cardigan or jacket.
The pink top is pretty casual but seems like good park choice and it is a nice color on you.

Both tops look really great with skirts! I think the pink one in particular is really pretty and not what I really think of when people are talking about a T shirt. Sometimes, I think it's all just semantics anyway. I've seen plenty of traditional looking t shirts (banded crew neck etc) in some gorgeous, luxurious knit fabrics.

Oh I didn't mean that I prefer tees to knit tops - just that I have hardly any. And I haven't done very well finding them, and so end up wearing tees occasionally.

In fact I have worn, to positive comments, tops in T shirt material quite a few times on YLF.

I think I wore the first outfit to coffee outside at the beach (ie on a park bench table). I thought that might be casual enough to be ok.

I actually thought the second top looked good once I saw the picture too, - funny how it can change your perception.

Agree with Tanya on all counts. A tee is a knit--just a poor quality one.

I actually really like the second top with the skirt.

I don't quite get why you would prefer tees to knitted tops with skirts. You can get some fairly simple knitted tops that are similar to tees, just better in fabrication.

Yes. the perennial problem rises its head

I feel I have done well with tops to go with clams or pants, not so well with skirts

I made a resolutions not to BUY any more t shirts. But frankly I quite like the look of them with skirts. Here I am in an old one
http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....oz/001.jpg

This is an old knit top I have never much liked, but when I was sorting through my clothes with a friend kept because she though it was nice. What do you think?

http://i297.photobucket.com/al.....oz/038.jpg
