BR and Gap add to the rise in tall sizes. Like AJ, I found that this addition to the rise fit weirdly on me - but a quick trip to the tailor fixed that, since I just needed to take the waistband in.

Good luck!

Maya - I tried the Gap microcheck pants in tall because the regular ones didn't have enough length in the leg. What I found (and what they told me on the phone) is that the tall sizing assumes that a person is both longer in the leg and in the torso. All my height is in my legs and my torso is average. I found that the tall pants fit me at the same place in the rise as the regulars, but were baggy in the crotch -- and I couldn't really pull them up in a way that made them fit properly. It seemed that would have worked, but I remember that it didn't -- maybe because then the waistband was too big since they were designed to sit at the hips not the waist. I didn't try sizing down so I can't say if that would have helped.

Good point. I wear a 2 regular so I guess I can't size down. Not sure when I'll get a chance to experiment with this but I definitely intend to at some point.

I didn't size down, and I think they are just a tiny bit bigger than regulars. 2 is the smallest anyway, at least at BR.

That did answer the question Marianne. I would only get skinnies and straight legs in tall sizes since there is no defined knee break. Pants are less of a problem. For some reason pant rises seem to be higher or just fit differently somehow.

Do you size down in talls? I size up when I try petites so I wonder if I should get the smallest size.

I haven't tried any tall sizes at the Gap lately, but I did try BR. Yes, the rise is higher. But the proportions are also different, depending on the cut. For example, I bought a pair of white high-waisted skinnies from BR, which are actually straight legs. I think you would really like the rise on those, and the pant leg is pretty much the same width throughout, so it doesn't matter much where your knee is. However, I tried some Martin pants in a tall size, and the fit was really wrong in many ways - roomier in the thighs, and the seat was kinda weird, etc. I can't imagine that you would need a tall size, but I hope that answers the question somewhat.

The post about being "petite but not" got me thinking about possibly trying a tall size next time I buy bottoms from BR. I know that sounds laughable since I am basically a dwarf at 5'2, but I thought it might give me extra length in the rise and since I only buy straight leg bottoms, hemming 6" shouldn't change the silhouette much. However, when I checked Gap's tall size guide, it indicates that the waistband is LOWER than regular sizes? What the...

http://www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=48054

I know for petites, they make the rise shorter. So it would stand to reason that the tall rise would be longer...but I guess not? So I am wondering: Is this true and for what reason does it make sense? Are the waistband placement and rise two different things? I think they are since the petite size guide indicates a higher waistband but a lower rise. I'm thoroughly confused now...

And, are BR bottoms the same way? I can't find information about the rise specifically on their site.
