Hee! Glad to peak your interest there Angie :-)
It IS boot season and I just bought these at TJMaxx:
http://www.amazon.com/Steve-Ma.....038;sr=8-4

It doesn't show in the picture but they have some slouch in the boot so they look quite current. They are the most comfortable boots I have ever put on my feet and again, *just* enough wedge heel. Boots have been a major problem for me in the past, I almost never find any comfortable enough after more than 30 minutes. I am about to put these new ones through the 6-hour running stairs test this week to see if they stand up to it

....although, I'll admit, that softwalk doesn't always carry the most stylish shoes on the block. In fact I just browsed zappos and didn't see much I liked. Somebody needs to write to them....

P.S--I AM wearing my shoes with hose or very thin trouser socks. I may be committing a major faux pas there, but I am willing to be slightly less stylish to keep my feet warm.

Trust me April, give them a shot, you won't be sorry.
Those Life Strides are currently THE most comfortable shoes I own, and they are shiny enough to be a bit dressy.

These Sofft pumps come in a close second:
http://www.amazon.com/Sofft-Wo.....038;sr=8-1

These also stand up to running all over the building, up and down stairs, for about 6 hours a day.Plus I get lots of compliments on them :-)
Good luck with your search! I feel like once I find a shoe I like I should buy ten thousand pairs because it is SO hard to find one that works! I am giving my Life Strides another week of pounding just to be sure, then I am headed back to the shoe store to buy two more pairs, likely a black and burgundy

Maya -- those European sizes make me a little crazy, for reasons I see you are familiar with. I wear a 7, which should be a 38, but 38s are really more of a 7.5. That's too big for me, but 37s are too small unless they run large.

I thought it was Americans who weren't supposed to be selective enough about fit...

PF -- I swear, I was *just* looking at those in the leopard print! (Angie, could those be worn with hose?)

And Marianna -- I LOVE the look of those Sam Edelmans, but for some reason I find the "calf hair" texture a little offputting. I was really drawn to the spotted Converse-looking "plimsolls" from Boden http://www.bodenusa.com/en-US/.....solls.html but that texture nixed it for me.

I have extraordinarily fussy feet so consider me an outlier on the comfort spectrum. If the Sam Edelman pumps work for you, I highly recommend them. They look absolutely gorgeous on. I think they would compliment your dainty frame very nicely. The problem I had with them is the same problem I always have: The material was stiff and rubbed my bony feet.

The shoes I had up for grabs are on their way to Angie unfortunately. It's a bit complicated: According to the size conversions on Endless.com, a 37 was supposed to be the equivalent of a size 6-6.5. They ended up being too big for me, which sort of made sense since I am often between a 36 and 37. Since Laura is a pretty consistent 37 (and US size 7), I sent them to her, but she found them too big as well! OTOH, Angie is a US 6.5 and has the same pumps in grey, and they fit her well. I'm curious to see if they fit Angie differently than her grey ones. I'm sure no one actually followed what I just wrote--I can't even follow it! They would have been great in the right size though, but unfortunately they are mostly sold out.

The Clarks you posted don't look loaferish at all...although I actually don't think there is anything wrong with loafers and dress pants.

I know Maya has tried these and they were uncomfortable for her, but I tried them on in the store and actually thought they were pretty comfortable on my foot. I guess it depends on your foot. I didn't buy them but am really tempted!

Hi April,
I don't know if these count as dressy as you would like but I bought these LifeStride ballet shoes a week ago in brown:
http://www.avenue.com/womens/1.....-size.html

I used to walk right by LifeStrides because they seemed a bit matronly, but these are really cute and have *just* enough stack heel to not be completely flat. I run up and down the hospital stairs all day in these and they have been fantastic.I am about to buy a pair in black patent or red if I can find them.My feet are immensely fussy and a little wide in the front so most shoes, including MeToo's, are not comfortable past about 3 hours, but these pass the work test!

<Sigh> Does such a thing exist?

I can't wear much of a heel, but I notice that dress pants look a little dowdy with a complete flat. Also, flats are tricky with any sort of hose, and it's getting too cold here to go without.

Has anyone seen an elegant, low-heeled, dress shoe that looks polished enough for work but that is also comfortable? (Anyone seen a unicorn?)
