Well, since these jackets need to be purged based on the color, I may go ahead and give it a try and see what happens..if if works then I will have 2 jackets. If not, I will have to replace them anyway. One of the jackets has a bit of poly in it so that seems doubtful but the other is all cotton so there may be some hope. Kasmira's blog post makes it seem like really hard work! If anyone else has tried and had success, any tips? After you have dyed the garment, how is the color fastness?

I have never had luck dying clothing. The new color never seems to completely cover the old color...and black is especially difficult to dye.

Don't know the fabric content of your jacket, but here's a post from Kasmira on overdyeing denim:

As I sort through my closet, purging all the non-fab items, I am coming across a situation. I have two jackets that fit great but the color is off. I need a black jacket so I am wondering if I can dye these good fitting/wrong colored jackets black. Anyone have experience with this? Any helpful hints?
