Sounds like you were the bell of the ball. You look so cute in that denim skirt and top and it is perfect for a picnic. I'm sure you were a great presense and cheerful looking at the picnic. Hey, isn't cheerful one of your style goals?

LOL, thanks Loulou! I was already gone by the time I read this, but I was glad you reinforced my choice. I went with the denim skirt and top, and I'm glad I did. It doesn't look out of place at all.

Hilariously, only a few people even changed what they would normally wear. A couple of more fashion-alert men are wearing cargo pants and nice Hawaiian shirts or a trendy striped polo, but the rest...heh, the rest are dressed just as always: khakis and a business-logo polo or short-sleeved button-down (UGH). And that's the standard outfit for the women *and* the men. One woman is in white jeans, another in capri pants, and then me. I'll be curious to see the rest of the hospital at the picnic!

Okay, none of you are online and I can't decide what to wear!

I have a 50s-ish outfit with a cotton frock with a full skirt, but it kind of feels like a costume.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....903317936/

Next is a simple empire-waist knit dress in navy with light blue trim. I wear its purple twin almost every weekend, lol. This one requires sandal-like shoes which I could totally get away with, I think.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....903317936/

Last is my most "rebellious" one: a dark denim skirt, cute summery tee top, and sandal-ish wedge espadrilles. I think this is the one.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/k.....903317936/

If anyone is around in the next 10 minutes, let me know which you like! I have to dry my hair now, LOL.

Well, it is the Nun Hospital, so I guess I get the 'no sandal' edict. Although many office workers have been wearing them all summer, including myself. It's cool today, so ballet flats might be in order. There is also a 50s theme, and one of my casual dresses is a bit poofy in the skirt...I think that might work. I'll take pictures and post for sure!

Dani, we are going to Natchez Trace, smack between Memphis and Nashville; I think that's west Tennessee? We've been a couple of times, for our honeymoon and 10-year anniversary; we love staying in and exploring the state park. We stay in a full house on the park, not camping or anything. We are waaaaaay too urban for anything less. LOL!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll let you know what I decide.

Wonder if the dress code writer was thinking of flip flops instead of sandals?
Maybe they were thinking stubbed toes or other accidents?

Are you going to east TN for your vacation? You'll be very much in my neck of the woods (pardon the expression)!! Do you have family in the area or just exploring? Hope you have a nice time!!

I'd go for casual dress and ballet flats as well. What about some of your privos? Would those work? Jeans skirt sounds like a good option as well. Is your dress code normally business casual? What is a step down from business casual if jeans aren't allowed? That is a curious dress code definition. Let us know what you decide to wear.

Where are you located? Will it be hot? If so, I can't imagine the sandal rule being followed.

A dress sounds like a great idea.

That is so bizarre! A casual dress (with or without leggings) or skirt sounds safe, though.

I am so sorry, I am so behind on commenting on posts! I'm trying to get everything done before we leave for a lovely vacation in the Tennessee woods; I've been reading but not joining in. I will try to catch up tonight.

But first! I need some help. Tomorrow we are having a summer picnic at work; it's very fun, and easygoing, with a dunking machine and grilled food and last year, some hulu dances. They sent out an dress code email earlier this week, and the rules make no sense.

It's "casual" dress, but we are not allowed to wear jeans or sandals. Whaaa?!?!

I am totally flummoxed by what to wear. Do I ignore the specifics and wear a jeans skirt, cute top and sandals? White jeans? A casual dress? Oh, maybe a casual dress and leggings! I never get to wear those to work.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated! I want to stay within my style -- polished, cheery, pretty, classic -- but I'd like to be a little creative with this if I can.
