Perhaps you can provide a link to the pants, Mary? Also, it really depends on the dress code of your office environment.

My current workplace doesn't have a dress code and most people dress very casual. That being said, I generally dress business casual. I would wear cropped pants with a professional top and shoes or maybe on a casual Friday for a more relaxed look.

As others have said it depends on the dress code, the style of the pants and the overall outfit. I do wear cropped dress pants (hot pink is as daring as I've been, but I'd probably do bright blue) but always wear them with heels and a blazer to dress it up enough for work (although we do not really have much of a dress code to speak of - I see a wide range of styles, but I feel more professional when I dress up more)

What's the dress code? They wouldn't be allowed at my current office, with a business professional dress code (but they'd probably look the other way if it was over 90 degrees outside if the top was professional). They would have been OK at the last one I worked in, but the code there was business casual with blue jean Fridays.

Workplaces can be so arbitrary in dress codes. Years ago, i worked in a place where I got some side-eye for a pair of simple, striped cropped pants, but one woman wore skirts that did not pass the fingertip rule! Just because it's a skirt does not mean it's professional!

Like Dianthus said, dress codes vary so widely, it's hard to say what is appropriate from one place to another. The next place I worked after the one mentioned above, I could have worn tees and jeans every day without a single glance.

Culture in office certainly varies. I can colored denim but not blue jeans. It's a drag
but that is the way it is the way it is sometimes. I wear knee length shorts in the summer so go figure!

No one wears jeans at my office, but I have seen cropped pants worn occasionally. I wouldn't do it, but I don't think it's a bad or inappropriate choice *provided* that you pair them with an appropriate top, shoes and accessories. I don't see the difference between wearing cropped pants and wearing jeans. In the end, it all depends on your office environment and what others are wearing.

Was it someone at work who said it? The environmental culture of offices can be vastly different so what is too casual in one may be acceptable in another.

Jeans are acceptable in the office I work in for everyone but not all people wear them.

I just bought a pair of electric blue cropped pants (not cropped dress slacks) and I was told that they were a bit informal to wear to the office. I decided I am going to heed this advice and wear my cropped pants on weekends. Is anyone besides me surprised at this statement?
