But it will probably have to be a deep eggplant or sophisticated burgundy, not the brighter color I like to call "crayon purple". If that doesn't work for you, navy is a widely recommended neutral, and super easy to wear, yet you rarely see it on shoes or bags, especially in patents or unusual textures. Right now I'm VERY into patent navy shoes, and I think they look very unusual and modern, even though they're just about as easy to wear as black shoes. I hope to start a patent navy trend! If the proportions are right (and the color is relatively subtle) it can work. I had rust-colored ankle boots that I wore into the ground for two seasons. I wear those constantly all fall and winter. (They are great shoes - I just like to be able to rotate.) Or, alternatively, I've been looking at flat, black-patent brogues. (Tried on a pair recently - DH thought they were adorable - loved the menswear vibe - but feared they made my feet look "too small" ??)</p> <p>One caveat: I do not like boots that hit on the ankle - like those shown on today's blog.
