There seems to be a phenomenon that exists for me that if I am out with the intention to buy (either because I've been given a shopping trip as a gift or I'm looking for a specific item), it's really hard to find something that works. If I am out shopping for Hubalicious or kids, I see loads of lovely items ;). YLF has actually helped me quite a bit in this scenario, because I used to buy a bunch of cheap items that fit ok, just to buy something. Now I wait for what I love, frustrating as it can be.

I know you didn't ask, but I think it would be lovely to buy your mom something that you think is beautiful for her as a sweetly thoughtful gift. Then, it's either a well-loved item with sentimental value, or an opportunity for her to return it and keep her eyes open for something that speaks to her if you save the receipt.

As much as I try to have a plan, I definitely get what I love and what strikes me on any given day. I don't really have any wardrobe orphans, so I guess it's working out ok.

Ahh...what I hate about shopping is wandering. I don't thrift well because I always have something in mind and if I don't find it rather quickly, I get frustrated.

I am very much a list/planning person, however sometimes I fall into the trap of buying something that ticks all the boxes that I don't really love or isn't really me. So, I think it has to be a balance. If you see something that really resonates with you sometimes it's worth is to impulse buy!

To avoid purchasing mistakes, I do try to shop with items in mind that I know I need to fill wardrobe holes or particular wants I'm looking for. But I do leave myself open minded enough that should I see something fantastic, I'm willing to consider it.

It depends. I can say that if I go shopping without a list in mind, I'm more apt to buy things that I don't need. I've learned over time that I shop more effectively, and come home with less impulse/unnecessary purchases if I've researched before I buy (looking online at websites to see if there are items I'm interested in checking out in person) or if I have a specific item in mind (I'm looking for metallic low-heeled sandals or a black flared knee length or midi skirt, for example.) But I do keep an eye out for other items that catch my eye.

I want to treat mom to a nice item of clothing and some make-up for helping me recently.

So, I asked her if there are things in particular she wants, but haven't got round to buying.

She said she doesn't know until she sees things in the stores.

Before or when you go shopping, do you have particular items in mind?

Do you have a general look around and buy things if you like them?
