Glad to hear everyone is enjoying the Olympic uniforms, a stylish bunch for sure.
There are so many different opinions on how denim should fit on the internet, happy to hear that some of the advice in this week’s link was helpful.
Chrizzle: which shoes were you wearing with your skinnies outfit? I’ve found that trying a more substantial style, e.g. an oxford with a low stacked heel or a fun bootie, can really help balance things out. Just a thought.

That jeans fitting article was very interesting and timely for me because I need new jeans really badly (the new ones I’m wearing today don’t count because they don’t look good on me – see more below). Cocolion, the women pictured were all trying on jeans at a Vault party, so they hadn’t yet been hemmed to the right length.

I do think she’s right that if you have big thighs (which I do) boots help to balance them. Lots of women don’t need the balancing effect once they get used to the skinnier look on themselves, but some of us definitely do. I’m wearing skinnies to work today and every time I’ve looked in the mirror today I’ve regretted wearing them. I am top-heavy with a large chest, thick waist, big thighs, and relatively slim calves/ankles, so I look like an ice-cream cone in them. Before I even saw the the article I decided that I won’t wear these jeans out in public again unless I am wearing boots, and/or a long tunic.

(Today is actually my first day wearing my first pair of skinnies. I have refused to buy them until now, and I think I should have stuck with straight legs and flares. I decided to experimented with wearing skinnies with a longer, but not tunic-length loose silky blouse that covers the tops of my thighs, and a fitted shorter jacket to add a bit of structure and waist-nipping. Nope – still look like Cone Woman. I’ll keep the jeans, but in the future, I’ll only wear them with long tops and boots.)

So fun to see my fellow Jamaicans all decked out in bold green, gold, and black. Not everyone’s favorite color combination but we Yardies take pride in it! Looking forward to seeing all the team outfits when I watch the Opening Ceremony tonight.

I am so excited to see the opening ceremony tonight and your Olympic uniforms link gave me chills of anticipation and excitement. I liked South Korea’s, too, and there is some color-blocking going on in a few of them. Let the games begin. I also enjoyed seeing the signature hairstyles and was fascinated by the “spacing” of the back pockets in the denim link.

Olympic fever is here! I loved your links, Inge! They are sensational and so well timed. I really like South Korea’s Olympic uniforms. And Germany’s uniforms look fun too! I’m going to give David Beckham my vote for best dressed athlete off the football field.

Loved the jeans fit link! However, I was surprised the link came from 2012 as the jeans washes and fits seemed a little dated to me, and the conclusion that you need boots to balance skinnies seemed like 2008 or at least that was how I wore skinnies in 2008. Hmmmm… I hope I do not sound too catty. I feel styles have changed and our eyes adjust. I was surprised they did not factor in footwear more (with the exception of the boots conclusion), because that is, to me, hugely important in jeans fit. None of the pants were hemmed nor did they have on the right shoes to go with each pair of jeans.

I did find the comments about pocket placement, whiskering, fading, and denim color, to be quite accurate. Unfortunately I have learned all of this the hard way, and after spending what probably amounts to a small fortune on both regular and premium jeans.
