This is so chock full of useful tips! Thank you! As a 22 yr old petite, busty, and inverted triangle shaped woman, shopping and dressing has always been a physical and emotional struggle. But with a little research and good investments, I'm on my way to being the fab 20 something I am.

The only thing I'd add here about bottoms to try are the trendy option of high-waist bottoms. They always look great on me! They cinch in your waist and define your hips. Tuck in a soft top, and your lookin good :)

Hi Angie! this website is very helpful. But I am not really sure if I am an inverted triangle or what so ever.. I usually use a bra size 36B, but when I measure it with tape measure its 33. Most of my pants sizing between 28,29.. But my waist is 32. My hip is 33 when I measured it. Anyway, Im kinda short.. I have to be honest here... I am 4'11" in height, not really sure if how much is weight probably 53 Kg.. Yes, I know.. Im kinda chubby for my height. And I dont really have a big and rounded butt, as you can see how I measured.
Would you please let me know whats my shape and what kind of clothes to wear? I will be very grateful. Thank you!

My dimensions are 38-28-38 but my shoulders are 44!!! I hate my body I wore pads on my hips for 10years all day everyday I'm now 28yrs old just breaking out of it trying to accept my body and dress it well. Its especially harder in Africa where the pear shape is considered the most attractive shape. Thanks :)

I have an inverted triangle body type, size 12 with 42DD bust, small waist and butt with curvaceous legs. It may sound good, but shopping is a real problem. I have a short waist (low rise pants and jeans visually correct this flaw). However, most tops are extremely too long for me. I recently discovered shopping in the juniors department for age appropriate tops (no stars or designs) have been very helpful. I wear a size medium in juniors. I wish there was a specialty stores for this body type, I am starting to embrace it. Thanks for the tips!

Angie, every time I re-read the two types, rectangle and IT, they remind me where to focus. I look forward to you posting in future, keeping in mind the current clothing styles.
Lately, color appears to be the big news in fashion, mixed with texture. What am I missing, with regards to what is being showcased, and what I should JUMP on?

LOVE your posts on the different body types, even those unlike mine!

I am more this shape than an apple, I always thought I was apple as I have a full waist and gain weight on the upper belly ( the lower belly has little fat) I have wide shoulders and a very broad back and an apple is more curvy, I have few curves other than my bust, i have skinny legs which have got thinner with middle age, bony knees and I hate my legs as they are so thin, my arms are slim too with swimmer arms as opposed to rangy like my legs, i have flat bottom and narrow hips, this shape is mostly me as I am more angular than curvy. I steer away from leggins as they make me look a bit like Henry 8th, all boxy and broad on top with comical thin legs. Boot cut trousers are my favourite, jeans i cannot find decent jeans at all as if they fit round the middle then there is nothing to put in the leg area and they hang on my boyish bottom, so I gave jeans up as a bad job really.

What a great site! I really appreciate all the tips so much. I started out with an IT shape but between breast feeding and using a walker and a wheelchair my bust, shoulders and arms got even bigger and my hips and legs got even smaller. I now have a size 16 bust and a size 6 hip with my waist waivering between a 10 and a twelve. These tips help me with style ideas but there isn't a manufacturer out there making clothes in thesedimensions! even if I buy a size 16 dress and have it tailored getting it made 10 sizes smaller in the hip is really impossible. I am stuck with separates all the time. Even then the difference between my bust and waist and my waist and hips means that I am always wearing stretchystuff, and always yanking something up or down. With a 36F bra and a 31 inch under bust the size 16 tops are really too big everywhaere except across the chest and back. Does anyone make clothes for IT women? How can Idress my really extreme figure?

Why didn't I discover this blog earliers.
I am inverted triangle shape, tall, witha a tiny waist, small hips, long legs and small but rounded bottom. Sounds perfect? Maybe, but you'd be surprised how many items of clothing I can't wear due to my body looking out of proportion. I envy the girls who wear skinny jeans (I can't as I look like a swimmer).
If a top fits me on my shoulders, it is far too big around my waist and the other way around.
I have long waist and if I wear a short top, my legs look too long (out of proportion with my body). So even though my friends think I have "the perfect body", I don't agree as I think that "average" bodies are easier to dress as there is more flexibility. In either case, I am so grateful for the guidlines, now I now what to look for.
