Review: The Outfit Additions Silk Collection

Today’s post is written by forum member Kim (“queenie”), who lives in San Jose, CA with her adoring husband and four teenage sons. In a house full of boys, girly time is precious and rare! So I asked fab, fun-loving, exuberant Kim if she’d like to road test some accessories from Outfit Additions, and here’s the result. Be sure to catch the opportunity to win a gift coupon at the end of Kim’s review.

I love to play with accessories to add style quotient to my outfits, so I was honored when Angie asked me to review some of the silk items from Outfit Additions. After browsing the website I chose the small wallet in carbonado, the clutch in cherry red and two belts — one in turquoise and the other in a lovely midnight blue vine design. The clutch, wallet and turquoise belt are 100% silk, while the midnight belt is 100% polyester.  I was quite impressed with the quality of these items. The fabric is of beautiful quality and each item is meticulously crafted. There are no loose threads or crooked stitching on any of the items I received. The colors are vibrant and rich.

The small tri-fold wallet was put to use immediately. I like to carry two wallets — a full size to carry the myriad of cards and coupons that I manage to accumulate, and a smaller wallet that holds my driver’s license, bank card, credit card and cash. This is the wallet that I throw into my gym bag or grab for a quick trip to the store for one or two items. My current small wallet had seen better days, so I filled this pretty little wallet with my items and have been happily toting it along ever since. It feels soft and luxurious in my hands and services me quite nicely. The tri-fold design keeps everything put and I don’t have cards and coins spilling out into the bottom of my purse.

The clutch is actually more of what I would call a full size wallet. It has slots for several cards, cash and coins. I love the cherry red color of this clutch, although I would love for it to be designed more as a clutch handbag that I could fill with lipstick, cell phone and compact for an evening out. I did play around and snapped it over a long gold necklace I have. That proved to be a fun way to make it look more like a little purse.

Silk Accessories Close Up

To be honest, I was initially uninspired by the belts. While beautifully made, I was not thrilled with the design of the D-ring buckles and didn’t see the belts as ones that I could easily integrate into my wardrobe.  However, after playing around in my closet, I soon discovered that I was dead wrong. I used both belts to accessorize several different outfits from clothes that I already owned. I paired them with my fanciest black dress to create a slightly more casual outfit and was also able to add just a bit of pop and polish to a simple outfit of jeans and a knit top. I wore the belt both in the belt loops of my jeans and layered around my blouse or dress. I was pleased with both looks.

I would have preferred a more dressy buckle than the D-rings, but I played around a bit with weaving the belt through the buckle and found that creating a type of knot around the buckle and letting the end hang added some fun visual interest. The turquoise belt is 100% silk and will be a fun accessory to use in my wardrobe this spring. The midnight blue belt is 100% polyester and has a more matte finish than the silk.  This belt pairs well with the blacks and blues in my wardrobe.

If you’re looking for something different than the typical leather wallets and leather belts, stop by and browse the offerings of Outfit Additions. The selection of rich colors is quite enticing and the quality of the pieces is impressive.

Review: The Outfit Additions Silk Collection

I did it! The store looks awesome.

Kim, you look fantastic! How clever of you to snap on a gold necklace to the clutch. That is my favourite of the lot :-) The red silk looks deelish. Oh, and I did the survey!

I did it as well. Thanks for the great review, Kim!

I also filled out the survey — thanks for the link to a great site!

I did as well. There are several things in that store I would love to have.

I completed the survey.

Great review, Kim! Thanks!

Thanks for the review – I completed the survey.

Interesting post, Kim, thank you!
the D-ring belt reminded me of my childhood – as far as I remember i didn´t wear anything else for a belt between 1979 and 1989!!! So happy the eighties are back!!

I just finished the survey – oh my gosh I seriously need some of these pieces. I love them! Thank you for the link and the contest!

Great write-up, Kim. I was floored by your creativity in making the clutch a purse with one of your necklaces. That’s so cool and something I would probably have never thought of. My favorite outfit is the black dress with the blue belt. Very nice.

I just completed the survey – thank you!

I love the red clutch next to your purple jacket! Thanks for a great article.

I completed the survey.

I could not answer one question correctly, as I never wear earrings. I do like the wallets and clutches; they remind me of Japanese kimono fabric and patterns.

just did the survey- thanks for the great review!

I love the way you integrate the belts into your outfits. Just gorgeous. I also like the black dress outfit the best, but all of these looks are great. Also, has anyone ever told you that you look a bit like Jean Tripplehorn from Big Love? You could be her stand in!

I just finished that survey.
And I really liked that belt on you…so versatile and bright!

I filled out my survey!

I love you style. Great basics with a little flare!

Wonderful review, thank you queenie. I love your outfits, you rock those dresses! I really like the belts and love how you were creative with the buckle. I would have been skeptical initially as well, I think, but now I want one :-) I bet the belts would look great over a white button down as well (a long shirt, or tunic).

And yes, I filled out the survey!!

I sent the survey

So cute! Four teenage boys, bless your heart. I’d take all the silk I could get.

Great Post! and I filled in the survey!

You look super cute, I love all of your outfits. I think the belts look better suited for the younger crowd (precisely because of the D rings) but you did a wonderful job styling them in an age appropriate fashion.

I filled out the survey!

Love all the pcs…did the quick survey..Thank You for the opportunity

Survey completed. Thanks!

Survey done! Queenie, thanks for the review. I had thought this type/style of accessory was not my style but now I am reconsidering!

I’m all for nicely made items especially if they have an Asian flare, so sign me up!

Thanks for the wonderful write up, Kim. I adore how you mixed the red clutch with the eggplant blazer smart casually with jeans. That’s a beautiful outfit and you look so pretty in that picture. You also increased the style quotient of the belts like nobody’s business and I’m impressed with your creativity. Glad you had some extra girly fun!

I took the survey- love the shop!

Queenie, you look stunning! What a great model you make. I love your cleverness in adding a chain to the red handbag. Thanks for the write-up!

Just completed the survey.

Very, very cute accessories. And a great writeup Kim. You pictures are lovely. I am currently obsessed with leather, but with some birthdays coming up, I will keep this site in mind.

Kim, This is Ash from Outfit Additions. Thank you for the great review. As so many others have mentioned, I love the creativity on the red clutch and looping of the belt buckles. And the feedback on the buckles – We’ll experiment with different types of buckles when we make more of these.

To everyone else – thanks for taking the time to fill out the survey. Your responses will be very helpful as we decide on expanding our jewelry line.

I just did the survey and enjoyed the reviews!

I took the survey. Thanks to Kim for the useful review.

Queenie, what a great review! You told us alot about the products, what you did and didn’t like – love that! Many times, people just rave on with no direction, you really let us know – terrific! I also love you showing us some real ways would could use the items as well – so very cute. Love the purse idea – so simple, but so smart! Thanks to both Queenie and Angie and to Outfit Additions – time to do some on-line shopping!

And PS – Queenie – 4 teenage boys – you really need some girly time – you’re a saint!

I covet one of those brocade belts.

Thank you all for your sweet compliments. You all have made my day ;-)

Susan- no, nobody has ever told me that. but I’ll take it :-)

Marlene- that is exactly what I would have thought– not my style. But that is exactly what has made them fun to use because they add an element of unexpected and “different” to my fairly predictable style ;-)

Ash, I’m glad you liked the review. I would suggest you make some true clutch bags and see how they sell– I think ladies would love them!

Angie- Thanks for letting me share the stage with you today on YLF. You’re a doll.

I completed the survey. Those are some gorgeous belts. I”m off to check them out…

You look so pretty Kim!!! Love how you used these items…very creative. Fab write up!!! Nice job !!!

What beautiful prints on the wallet and clutch. Great idea to use a necklace as a strap!!

I took the survey!

I tried to take the survey, but couldn’t. Since I don’t buy fashion jewelry (I simply wear the pieces I already own), none of the questions applied to me. However, the survey did not allow any “n/a” or “zero” answers. Bad survey design!

Too bad, because I really like the items that Kim modeled, none of which were jewelry!

I took the survey!

Thank you for the fantastic review Kim! At first glance I thought “hm not really for me”, but that’s the amazing thing about YLF and all the stylish lasses on the forum: they constantly encourage me to expand my fashion horizons, try things that are a little out of my comfort zone – or at least consider them – and my wardrobe definitely feels lots more exciting because of it!

Adding your necklace was just brilliant, by the way! The red clutch against your purple blazer is beautiful and I love the blue belt with your fuchsia shirt too.
(I bet your boys are super proud of their stunning Mum!!)

I completed the survey and hope I am the lucky winner

Nice job on the review queenie! These are really pretty. I just filled out the survey.

You look SO good and did a great job with the review, Kim. The way you reworked the belts is perfection.

Their pieces are not really my style so I did *not* do the survey, but they have lovely stuff and I’m sure it will look great on whoever wins.

Just did the survey. Thanks!

Okay – I took the survey & especially liked the exotic looking silk purses and belts:)

Yes! I love being introduced to new, fun places to get accessories. I did the survey too :)

I took the survey as well.

Hi…Completed the survey! Thanks for the great review!

Kim, you did a beautiful job tying the belts. You’re very creative and make the belts look very, very special that way. I agree hiding the D rings brings them up a notch.
The bags also are so pretty.
Thankyou for your great write up and taking the time to change outfits to photograph for us, so we can see these items in motion. I do want one of those belts now!
You’re great!

Beautifull written blog, Kim!

Thank you so much for the idea of using two wallets! I have been toting around these gigantic wallets so that I can have EVERYTHING with me all the time, but most times you just need two or three cards and some cash. It seems like such an obvious idea, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner. Brilliant!

And I filled out the survey! :)

Great review, Kim! Thank you for all the ideas. I love what you made with the red wallet.

I completed the survey. :)

Thanks again ladies for all your sweet compliments!
Meredith- I feel so good knowing that I have helped you simplify your life (or atleast your wallet situation) Seriously, I get such a kick out of that sort of thing :-) I’m so weird- haha.
And adding the chain to the wallet was a total last minute thought. Glad you all liked that!

Good luck everyone in the contest! Can’t wait to find out who the lucky winner is!

Kim you look stunning, thank you for a great write up and the inspired transformation of the clutch. I very much like your style and believe the arty pieces provide a fab contrast.

I did it, the problem is I need more than accessories-I need a “What not to wear” intervention and the dollars that comes with it!

I like the way Kim used the accessories.
The pieces will be very versatile.
