Fab Find: Plaid jacket and bag from Target

February 8th, 2010

Occasionally when I’m browsing through the clothing and accessory areas of Target, something grabs my attention from a design and quality point of view. Last week I found a daring canary yellow checked design that screamed fab Spring chic. The lined Chanel-esque jacket is well made and the fit is not bad at all. The bag is not quite as well made, but perfectly acceptable.

There are better ways of styling this jacket than what you see in the picture. For starters, pair the look with blue or white jeans and a black top. Try it over a black sheath dress and slouch boots. Pair it with a denim skirt, black and white graphic T, and ballet flats. Add the bag to any black and white ensemble for extra pop. Think of how delicious this yellow checked design would look with black and white polka dots! Bold, but beautiful.

I love the jacket! I also saw this in the store but didn’t get it because of my shopping “ban.” It’s a really lovely piece. I love the idea of it over polka dots! Yum!

Love the yellow, but it doesn’t love me. Does this come in any other colors? And I’d love to see a photo of someone wearing this over polka dots!

Ooh, I saw that blazer but wasn’t sure it was quite me or not. Target has a b&w polka dot skirt this season too! I love how it is cropped and I know the color will work well for me. I’ll be at Target tomorrow trying it out! Funny how just when I decided to look only for jackets/blazers I’m finding awesome ones all around and for great prices!

Angie, I love your styling ideas. You may think it sounds simple, but those ideas are genius to me!

I tried this on in the store and indeed it looks like a well-made jacket! I had to stop myself from buying it with the reason of its memorable look and its availability. It’s so unique and affordable I feel like it won’t be original anymore in two months. Am I being not a very nice person to think this way? I love the jacket! It’s how you style it that matters anyway.

Angie, I love that you provided additional ideas on dressing with the jacket and bag. It really expands the wardrobe when you provide additional pointers.

Thanks. I love the jacket. I like it when my neck and chest show like in the picture. It makes me feel slimmer…I guess because it draws the eye upward?

Cute jacket & bag! And I was at Target on the weekend. Can’t believe I didn’t notice this.

They look so happy and cheerful. the jacket is super cute. Too bad this shade of yellow looks pretty bad on me, but I will enjoy it on others.

I saw this jacket in the store yesterday, and IMO, it looks better in the picture than up close & personal. I wasn’t impressed with the fabric; again, just my opinion ;-) Target does have a number of items (dresses, tops, cardigans, etc.) in this bright, sunny yellow, though, if that color works for you. I love this color in theory, but I’m just not sure whether I can wear it or not.

I want the bag, the jacket is too cropped for me. But I did get one of the yellow print silky blouses!

After seeing this post, I found this jacket at Target, tried it and bought it. I usually can’t wear yellow, but with the black or white under it, it works. Like chelle, I like how slenderizing it is. I plan to wear it with a LBD (fitted sheath), a pencil skirt, and maybe black pants over a buttondown shirt or long cami. I still need to experiment. And I’ve got a polkadot scarf! It is inexpensive enough to enjoy as a memorable piece and keep price-per-wear down.
Target had a black and white polka-dot dress but I didn’t like the jacket with it.
