Black Friday Sale Alerts

November 27th, 2009

Back Friday is viewed as the biggest retail day on the American shopping calendar because it officially starts the Christmas gift purchasing frenzy. If anyone knows how it got its name, I’d love to know. Also, if you have any Black Friday sale stories and traditions to share, I’d love to hear about those too.

Here are some additional sales that kicked off today.

So the sales continue. Are you shopped out, or still going strong?

Good morning! RE: how the black Friday got its name – it’s traditionally been the day where retailers start turning profit (their numbers going from red to black); many retailers make the bulk of their annual profits in the last six weeks of the year.
Happy bargain hunting (I personally avoid the mall until January).

I am so glad we can shop online – there is no way I would go near a mall or shopping center today! Thank you for the heads up on the discounts :)

Just wanted to remind people that if you buy through Bing or Ebates there are additional discounts. Examples: Ebates has 10% cash back for GAP, 5% for Boden, 7% for Nordstroms. Bing has 15% for WalMart-(I am taking back the DSis I bought the kids from Target and repurchasing from Walmart.) It takes a couple weeks to get your money back in the form of a check but it is quite worth it IMO. Last month I got 30% cashback from Endless.com for a pair of Frye Heaths!

Thanks, Antje. I thought that the term “Black Friday” had something to do with people standing in queues outside retail stores at all hours of the night before doors open at 5am. Your reason makes more sense.

Thanks for the extra bargain shopping tips. Like you, I shan’t be going anywhere near a shopping area today. My tummy is still recovering from Thanksgiving Day supper and taking advantage of the sales is working pretty well straight from my computer.

I am well and truly shopped out, but still have a big list of stuff that I’m thinking of/planning on ordering online. I was up at 3:00am this morning. :)

It’s a novelty to me – the Black Friday sales. Macy’s was pretty good this morning!

So, I left the house at around 3:45 am, and got home about 3-ish pm. Next year, I hope to be even better prepared. I went shopping for gifts mainly, but then there were all kinds of good deals going on, and I ended up with a bunch of stuff too (oops!). This is *before* I start on my very long list of online orders.

I couldn’t quite get myself to go to an outlet mall last night at like 10pm, then come home, go to bed and then get up again for the ridiculous 4:00am store openings.

Meanwhile, the new YLF online-store isn’t helping! Trench coat, boots, two kinds of turtlenecks, camisoles and fancy scarf are all on my ‘to be ordered’ list.

I think Macy’s had the best deals this morning – but the thing is, I could have ordered stuff online. Meanwhile – I like the fact that Nordstrom’s sale starts a lot earlier. Not so hectic!

I am tired!

Boden USA seems to have ended their sales early. I just now (28/11 both here in HK and in the US) tried to order some things for my sister, and, while the prices were discounted when I put them into my cart this morning (28/11 HK, 27/11 US), they were not just now. hm!

I take this back — I went back to the site and now the shopping cart has the discounted price. very, very strange. (I added and removed and added and removed… aie.)
