I second the consignment shop suggestion. There are a lot more people looking to sell than buy right now, so it's definitely a buyer's market.

I have never tried those sample sale sites, even though I've been hearing about them for a while. If there are tricks or strategies to use them better, I'd love to see a post on that too.

My shopping strategy for new clothes is always to shop in July/August and January/February. The end-of-season sales are awesome. Since I've just lived through the season I have a good idea of what I need: what's missing from my wardrobe and what's just about worn out. Plus, I get the newness thrill twice. I love shopping and picking out new items, so I get that pleasure when I purchase. Then, months later, when the seasons change again, I have never-worn clothing in my closet that I get to wear for the first time.

Weekly bargain roundup is a great addition to You Look Fab.

I have to admit that by getting sample sale items from sites like ruelala, gilt, hautelook, ideeli, beyondtherack, and others (in the UK, New Zealand, and France!) I've been able to try much higher end items than I would normally have been able to afford. This in turn has spurred me to look for better clothing, since I can now see the difference (it's not always the case, but so far, this has worked out great). I've gotten sweaters, cosmetics, boots, shoes, coats, jackets, handbags, scarves, watches, homewares, and gifts for others-the prices are truly amazing. I used to be an ebay queen, but these are usually much better deals. You might do a column in the future on how to shop on them-there are a few tricks to the trade!

Thank you for this blog entry. It was great to see the bargains in one spot.
If you know of a resale shop in your area that buys its clothing, you should check out the merchandise now. Probably because of the economy it seems that many women want to sell their nice clothing, getting the money up front. Those places may be well stocked with gems. The consignment shops are also doing well in my area with more items than usual that still have their original tags. It's worth a look, especially for dressy items.

There are several clothing websites which have ongoing or weekly bargains. The classic (hope not "dowdy" to your readers) catalog, Appleseeds, and its sister catalog, Tog Shop, have ongoing sale items on their websites with Apppleseeds having items of the week on special sale each week. Sierra Trading Post also has continuous sales with customer reviews. which are very helpful. I notice that all the catalogs to which I subscribe online are having very frequent special offers, as well as shipping deals. Enjoy!
