I feel the same way about black footwear - it just doesn't feel summer-y, unless it's a strappy sandal (and even then).

Black does tend to look too hot to wear in summer, even if the garment is made of a light fabric and you feel cool enough wearing the item, so I try mix it with white and other light colors. This is a very timely post, as I still tend to reach for all dark colored clothes for their slimming appearance.

I'll wear black until it reaches 30 degrees celcius, but after that it's just way too hot and holds too much heat.

I wear black (sleeveless tops, walking shorts) in the summer, too. Since the Seattle area is usually still breezy and cool except for a few weeks, I don't mind the heat-absorbing properties of black. However, I do feel funny wearing ALL black - it's too much of a contrast when I am already super pale, and it seems seasonally out of place.

I am glad to read this post as just bought a summery, sleeveless black top today. So proud of myself as it covers a few trend categories - volume, banded and black!
I really like the suggestion of robin's egg blue with black. My go to has been cream/khaki or the white accents and accessorized with one of my turquoise pieces.

Great tips, Angie! I've been a a black rut before but rediscovered the beauty of black/white ensembles thanks to you. I'm loving it! I was wondering if black/white combination is something that goes in and out of style or is it always popular?

I LOVE black!!! It's slimming and you always look dressed up. I am wearing a black skirt today and thought it would look to "night" for the day but you're right - topping it with bright colors and bright accesories makes it more playful. Loved this post!

I guess what I have to say doesn't count since I don't group colors by season, but I'll say it anyway :p

I wear black this way all year long. I love black and white, and black with bright colors. I have yet to find a decent pair of clams or white jeans, but I'm sure I would have worn black that way too. Black has a bad reputation since so many people use it as a security blanket, but it is my best neutral so I continue to wear it in abundance. White looks nice too, but black is just fierce. Long before I knew about style or fashion, I always noticed how good I looked in it.
