clarks shoes are great! they have a bit of a fuddy duddy reputation here in the uk but they are always so comfortable to wear, even from day 1! i have a very similar pair which i brought a couple of years ago from clarks and they are still in fab condition despite almost daily summer usage.

Since I’m still a style newbie – could you wear these with bootcut jeans? Would they work with my chunky calves, if I found the right summer skirt? Or should I stick with something with a bit of a heel? (I bought these Clarks last summer and love the heel height, but it’s a totally different look: http://tinyurl.com/awewec)

Ok, so newly intrigued about (subtle) gladiators I tried on the ones Angie originally blogged about. They are VERY comfortable indeed. I love the champagne color, it would be a great neutral. Alas, though, I found that the style had a lengthening effect, and since I already have rather large feet (size 9 at a body height of 5′3”) I don’t like my shoes to make my feet look even longer. So I passed. But in terms of comfort, I can definitely support the shoe, and the price seems fair.

Telly, foot orthotics are never “old lady”. They help us walk which keeps us moving and therefore young, so rock on orthotics! And for the record, I also fancy flat gladiators just like you.

Becky, I hear you. You have a point. Clarks makes wides. I’m holding thumbs that you find some that work.

Marlene: Thanks! I’ll have to do more research.

Angie: Yes, I eagerly read the shoe post. The problem is, I have a *truly* wide forefoot. Usually, even if the leather can be stretched, the outside of my foot hangs over the edge of the foodbed/sole if the shoe is not at least E width, which is uncomfortable and, IMO, unsightly. However, on the strength of your recommendation, I’ll not give up on these till I’ve tried them.
