I saw my girlfriend last night - she is very fashionable and has a fabulous wardrobe that would get a very high AAR. She sticks to neutrals nearly exclusively. It is very, very rare to see her in any colors other than grey, black, cream, white, dark denim, and red accessories. She does not wear browns much either.

I suspect the reason is that she is very fair, with peachy undertones. I thought I was fair - until one day she borrowed my foundation, and it looked like she was wearing that pink poison ivy lotion on her face!!! Being so fair, olor is tricky for her. She has incorporated *some* color - she has a signature color that is this beautiful shade of light green. It's just that she has to look far and wide for colors that compliment her ultra-fair coloring.

Thanks for the fab response ladies. I’m not the only moody one around (nice one, Sarah). I enjoyed hearing how many neutral lasses there are out there.

I think that carrying a BRIGHT red bag, or citron scarf with my neutral ensembles keeps my colour addiction intact ( as you can see from this site, I love bright colours). I still adore wearing bright colours, but do not sport them daily like I used to – not even in Summer. My style evolved over the last 6 months for sure. It’s been very interesting.

For those of you that mention that you wear a lot of black, I hope you’re not in a black rut! Remember these blog posts?

It’s imperative to add texture to a neutral ensemble. If you don’t, the overall result can be blah and unflattering. Black is a harsh colour and not everyone looks good in black. It has to be softened and lipstick can do the trick. I see loads of wardrobes that fall back on black tops – I wish more people would fall back on white tops instead. I’m still very weary of wearing black and looking drab. I’m a little obsessed with keeping “black” pretty!

Today I’m wearing jeans tucked into grey over-the-knee flat, slouchy riding boots, a white shirt, citron and grey striped pullover and charcoal military jacket. It’s chilly outside so I’m finishing off the look with a citron pashmina that I’ll Euro-loop and a black cracked patent handbag. I feel best in neutrals with ONE strong pop of colour in either an item of clothing or an accessory. It’s become a signature look.

Shiny, I do not own, or wear black dress pants as Shell and Antje correctly remembered. This is not my style. I owned a pair of black slacks once at the age of 24 and that was it. (I do wear black gangster striped slacks and black pencil skirts, though).

Well, I’m not alone then. I think my preferences of neutrals or brights have to do with two things. One is the weather. Usually when it starts getting cold I crave neutrals and the few darker colors that look good against my fair skin, and this season is no exception. The second is simply the need for variety. I love brights and long for them in the spring and summer, but by the time fall comes around I’m tired of them and looking around at brights thinking that they are almost annoying. So I’m moody too. :)

Am loving the grays.
Especially charcoals and richer grays.

Cream/winter white (pick a decade, right?);D has never been a good color for me.

Black on black is so 90's. I remember reading how in NYC people wore black in the summer. How cool were they. I don't think all black is so flattering on the skin tone for me. But I do like a good black shirt or tneck. I found a short sleve tneck I layer, it's so nice, easy to work in.

Love rich beige Pringles of Scotland cashmere sweater, one pullover, one cardi.

Neutrals rule!

I also consider burgundy a neutral. Or wine. I think both are a very elegant "red".

For me, it's not a mood, it's a style! Today I wore a big purple sweater and a magenta and purple ombre scarf, the only color amid my black boots, black skinny jeans, black camisole, and black hair. Red and shocking pink are my usual pops of color.

Hee, interestingly enough, colors are my *default* uniform, and black&white is out of the box for me. I love how black/white/cream look on me, especially close to my face, but for some reason I have very few black, white and cream items in my closet. I've been slowly trying to remedy this, but I'm taking my time and being really picky. Deep inside, I kind of yearn to have black&cream outfits with just one or two pops of bright color.

Surprisingly I've been in a neutral mood lately as well. Because it's still warm here, I really just need a change. I've been wearing my black skinny jeans almost every day, and layer a black cardi over a bright top to make it "feel" more like fall.

I've been in a neutral mood for fall/winter for the past 20 years! lol I can do brights for spring/summer, but come winter I tend to do camel head to toe, black and navy together, shades of brown.....with a pop of color in either the shoe, the bag, or a scarf. I just cannot bring myself to wear a blazing red sweater!

I've always been a big fan of black, grey, tan and olive. I have to force myself to wear color on a daily basis.

Also, since I'm not working right now, I'm wearing a lot more denim. Today I have on dark denim jeans, a chocolate brown tank top with a maroonish scoop neck top, black shoes. This is my comfort zone.

There is nothing that oozes class more than an all off-white ensemble. Add big sunglasses and you have the look!
