Updated form and a little extra function at YLF

October 6th, 2008

As you have probably noticed, we’ve made some small changes to the site. First, Lisa Henderling updated my look to reflect current reality. Cropped hair, new specs and my typical uniform of skinnies, a girly woven top, tailored jacket and chunky pearl necklace. Even Jasmine and Rosie had a collar change. And although I’m wearing my red patent Kate Spade heels, I’m kind to my feet when I walk our girls. I’m either in flats or Converse for sure. We let Lisa have artistic license on this one.

Second, we’ve added some functionality to the forum.

  • Profile links: Wherever they appear, the names of forum members now link to their profile page. Here you can find information about the member (whatever they choose to include in their profile) and see a list of their recent posts.
  • Online members: The list of members currently online is displayed in the forum sidebar. These are also linked to the member profiles.

We love the sense of community in the forum, and we hope that making the profiles more accessible will allow members to learn a bit more about each other. It is very easy to add more information to your profile: just click “edit” alongside “Your Profile” in the forum sidebar.

As always, let us know if you have any comments or notice any bugs.

I have just noticed the new features Angie and commented on the forum how fab they are. I especially like your new portrait, and Jasmine and Rosie look adorable!
The feature allowing us to see who is online is pretty cool.

Thank you ladies (and thanks for noticing so swiftly Tanya, AND for starting a thread on the forum). You are Ms. chop-chop!

I’m thrilled with the new illustration and site features. The illustration looks and feels so much more like “me”. The artist, Lisa Henderling is great fun to work with. I wish you could all have an arty experience with her.

I’m really enjoying seeing who’s on the forum at the same time as I am. It makes for a close knit sense of community. I love that! Greg is solely responsible for the site updates and as always, he does the BEST job of making our site look beautiful and function effectively. This site would not operate without his technical expertise and strong sense of aesthetic. He does all of this in his much restricted spare time. A hundred cheers for Greg’s hard work and labour of love!

Angie – thanks to you and Greg for the new functionality and I love the updated design. I did have one small suggestion and that is to add “body type” to the profile page. I love the forum but it would be super helpful to know at a glance what someones type is (hourglass, pear etc.) when they are asking/posting items. I know a lot of the gals on the forum have incredible memories but my brain just can’t keep track!

Wow Angie! It’s like you read my mind. :) Seriously, yesterday I was thinking that it would be nice if we had a members list and could click on member’s names and go straight to their profile. The list of members currently online and updated art are added bonuses. Great work, Angie and friends (i.e. Greg and Lisa).

Love the new updated YLF! Thanks for all the hard work here, Greg!

I’m loving the updates! Nice job, Greg!

I really like Julijuli’s suggestion of body type. I guess we can put that in our “about me” section, though, if it’s not something that can be added. Ooh, it would be nice if we could have a photo in our profile page. But a little mystery is good too. It’s fun to imagine what people look like.

We could already click on peoples names and go to their profile. It’s the list of those online that’s new. I can’t see Jasmine and Rosie.

Thank you, Thank you! Now this is even more fun!

Thanks for the kind feedback.

JuliJuli and Ana, yes, “body type” on the profile page is on my list. We are also considering the addition of a profile picture that is used as an avatar alongside posts.

Anne, you are right that one could previously click on names in the thread. Now you can click on them *everywhere*. Most importantly, on the front page of the forum in the “Author” and “Latest” columns.

You can see Jasmine and Rosie by going to the “About Angie” page ( http://youlookfab.com/about-angie ), which reveals more of Lisa’s illustration. You might also find some secret links if your mouse wanders over the little faces. ;-)

A Ha – I think I’ve seen those secret links before. Very cute! Is that you Angie, in the pics?

Wow….everything looks great (no big surprise)! I’ve been busy the last few days, so have not been around, but I stole a minute this morning to check out the changes.

I like the idea of having a list of who’s online. I must admit, YLF is on a dedicated tab, so when I open a browser, YLF is one of 8 websites that automatically open. (I think it’s Vista’s version of a “homepage”). So, I may appear online, even when I’m not. But having that active list is a great way to start a chat thread. Maybe a “sticky” Chat Thread can be implimented, and if a few people are hanging around at the same time, they can pop into the “chat thread” to well…chat. It’s a simple route around a separate chat room. Just an idea.

The updated site looks super (love your red shoes Angie;-). And the extra members features are very helpful and handy. Thank you Angie, Greg and Lisa.

Off to find the secret links now!

And have a wonderful time in HK guys!!!

I love the new look Angie – very noice!

Just wondering about the RSS feeds though – my reader doesn’t pick up all the changes, and it only seems to update about once a week. All my other feeds update all the time, so I’m wondering if its something on your site not doing it too regularly? No se!
