A comfy Spring flat

March 13th, 2008

I’m always on the hunt for comfortable shoes that look fab and I recently scored another pair. They’re dressy Anne Klein snip-toe ballet flats with an ultra soft flexible sole that cushions the foot beautifully. Shoes with decorative buckles on their vamps often cut into your skin as you walk because the buckles spill over the edge of the shoe. But these buckles don’t because they’re positioned away from the edge. They’re also cut low enough so that none of the bones on my feet chaff against the sides of the shoe. My hopes are high that this ped will make the “8-hour” mark.

I ordered these shoes because the Zappos reviews were very encouraging. I can’t tell whether they offer enough arch support because I don’t seem to have a problem with the arches of my feet; but they’re soft and a lot more substantial than many of the flats around. You might need to go up half size if your feet are a little wider because the toe box is snug. Roll on Spring, I can’t wait to break in my new skimmers.

Bless you, Angie. Yesterday I wore what I thought were a pair of comfy flats from Taryn by Taryn Rose. They were probably among the most expensive shoes I ever bought, and they hurt like crazy! I was totally devastated that ever since surgery, all my flats seem to hurt. I guess I’ve gotten so used to wearing comfy, generously sized flat boots and sneakers that the shoes I once thought of as comfortable are actually pretty painful, but with spring around the corner I need to replenish my warm weather shoe collection. I love the bright colors of these shoes. I think I might go for the yellow ones.

I’m sorry to hear that your Taryn Rose shoes hurt Maya! They cost the earth! I haven’t yet found a pair of Taryn Rose shoes that work for my feet, but am willing to spend the money if I find them.

I too bought the yellow pair and they work well. They aren’t vegan though.

The ones I got were from the less pricey line of footwear. I would have been crushed if I spent $500!

It’s okay if they aren’t vegan. I tried restricting myself to nonleather footwear when I was in college and it just didn’t work. My foot is much too wide to wear materials that don’t stretch.

i find flats uncomfortable, actually. the most comfortable shoes for me are wedges with rubber heels — easier to get away with in warm weather.

What is it about flats that you find uncomfortable m? And how is a wedge with rubber heels easy to wear in Summer? I’m curious.

oooh I love flats. I have flat feet and flats are really comfy for me. I do get the problem of the sides digging in but these look like like it won’t do that. Hmmm…maybe I should get some…

Have some flats that are TOO flat. There are a pair of moccasins that had NO arch support, and that’s not usually a problem for me – but with pair of those new hard plastic orthotics they are just fine!

I’ve always had problems with any shoes I buy so when Oprah had a segment on Cole Haan’s shoes & how comfy she thought they were… I immediately went and bought all types of his shoes. Flats, heels, boots…and guess what? Yup, they all still hurt my feet. I’ve never bought into the concept of ‘breaking’ shoes in. They either fit or don’t.

You are SO right Patricia. Shoes do not get much better when they’re broken in. They need to work straight away or say goodbye. I too have no luck with Cole Haan shoes. I’ve realized that I cannot rely on any brand. It remains complete trial and error every season.

I agree that Coral would be lovely Lisa.

I was thinking about trying Lands’ End’s Comfort Moccassins. Has anyone tried them? I thought their bright parrot color was too cute.

If only they came in WW! :-(

Those flats are very cute, but I just can not wear flats. I have short legs in proportion to my body, and I really really need that 2″ or so I get from heels. That little bit of height seems to put my legs back in proportion (and de-emphasize my thighs.) It’s tricky, though, when I just want a casual, comfy shoe to wear with jeans. I scoured Zappos today and I found a red suede loafer with a 2″ heel that I think might give me a similar casual look – it’s got a buckle detail – while also giving me that little bit of height I need. Am I on the right track? http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7329868/c/22486.html

It’s a fact that height slims down curves. If you’re short and you can wear a heel, that’s great. It’s a little trickier if you can’t wear heels and you look better wearing them.

The shoe that you have selected is lovely Tarzy. It’s casual enough and you are definitely on the right track!

I just got a big box from Endless containing 5 pairs of yellow shoes for me to try and decide between. I really wanted to add a new color to my wardrobe, and since yellow doesn’t look against my face, I decided to go with yellow shoes and a yellow bag. Anyway, the Anne Klein flats are indeed super – both very sleek and stylish and very comfortable. I’m currently deciding between these and the Mia ones, which are even more comfortable but also more casual and “airy” (I think I’ll be happier in them in the summer months.) Decisions, decisions… Anyway, these are the Mia ones, I highly recommend them, super fit, fun color, and great price:

Wow! more comfortable then the Anne Klein’s? I am on to it. Leather “cut-out” is a trend this season. I bought a pair of cream ballet flats with this detail when I was in Spain. It’s so ‘80’s. But the snip-toe detail is fairly new and I like the look as well. Thanks Antje. My verdict on the Mia’s shoe comfort level is on the way!

I am trying to decide between these two shoes also. The Anne Klein’s or the Mia. So what was your verdict Angie?

Shannon, I preferred the colour and comfort of the Anne Klein and went with the Me Too “Swann Flat” instead of the Mia.

LOL, I just followed the link from The Best Ballet Flat because I just bought a pair of Anne Klein flats and was curious which ones you were talking about. And wouldn’t you know, I just bought that pink pair from Zappos last month! They’ve been very comfy so far, and I ordered them in two sizes to make sure they fit because I normally don’t spend so much on a pair of shoes. Returning the other pair was super easy and didn’t cost a thing.

I’m really happy with the shoes, especially since I found a really nice floral skirt in that color, yellow, and coral, on white. For Easter, I wore that, a beige shirt, some light pink jewelry, and a coral bag.

I bought these Anne Klein flats in green. Love them, but have not worn them yet. I can’t decide if they are just a touch too big. I know I could order 1/2 size smaller, just didn’t want to deal with returning them. Did anybody else have to go down in size with these? Thanks!
