Angie, you're right on. Sure there are plenty of flats, and obviously plenty of 3-inch and taller heels, but an utter lack of any heel height in between. Why has the 2-inch heel ceased to exist? They look so classy!

I echo everything you've said and feel I really didn't get my money's worth this season. I spent and spent trying to find that elusive "something" and never did.

Europe always sounds like such a wonderful place to shop. I'm entirely too jealous of people who get to travel the globe. Then again, I have a few friends from outside the U.S. who wish they had the shopping opportunities that we have here.

Oh well, the shoes are always greener...

Maya, m and Meg, your points about shoes are my sentiments exactly. The best looking shoes over the last few seasons are like stilts. A good fashion season is always one in which there is enough choice and as far as shoes go in America, this was not the case. I saw plenty of fab 1-2 inch heeled shoes and boots in Europe last year which helped me, but not my American clients. If only we could take down a shoe like we could a hem. Let’s hope that 2008 gives us a better selection of heel heights.

i seriously love the first two shoes and can't wear them because they are too heigh. they are exactly what i'm looking for in terms of being "full coverage" winter-appropriate shoes which aren't boots. if only heels could be shortened like a hem!

Angie, I enthusiastically agree with everything you said!

And even though I love high heels, I really wish I had more shoes between the 4-inchers and ballet flats -- but they're so hard to find, especially in fun colors and styles.

I like trapeze jackets but one is enough! I don't want a whole wardrobe full of them.

I have to agree that the rising heel heights were my biggest peeve. I ended up having to get some ankle boots that I'm really not crazy about just because there wasn't anything else available between completely flat and 3+ inches. I often see women in NYC floating effortlessly through Penn station on their 3 inch heels, and girls in my classes and on campus running around in even higher stilts. I just don't understand how they do it and I probably never will. I walk 30 blocks or more when the weather permits, so it's doubtful that even the sturdiest, comfiest heel in the world would be conducive to my lifestyle.

There were loads of flats around too Stephanie. Flats or three inches plus and basically nothing in-between that looked remotely fabulous. My job and lifestyle requires me to walk and run around a lot and I do so in either flats or 1 to 2 inch heels. I have stable three inch heeled shoes for going out purposes, occasions and presentation days. People who work but sit in an office all day get away with wearing higher heels because they do little movement in them. If you can run around all day and commute on foot daily in really high heels (three inches and higher) then you are in the minority and this is a skill you can put on your resume!

hhhmmm, I'm tired of trapeze - jackets and dresses too! That style got lots of face time last autumn/winter as well. I am pleased to see a nod to the 1950's in the coming season though (European Spring shows have really embraced small waists and big skirts) so much more flattering than 60's mini's and babydolls that were so over exposed last winter...Bring back the waist I say!

It seemed to me that alot of the trends this fall/winter were geared for the highschool aged girl. The excess fabric, the trapeze style jacket and tops, and the super tight skinnines all look best on tall, slender waiflike silouettes. I think designers need to take a closer look at what their demographic looks like from the neck down, and stop using stick figures for their manequins.
