Katie Holmes is not a celebrity whose sense of style catches my eye, but her new hairdo grabbed my attention. Over the past 3 years, she’s gone from here, to here and now to here. A retro 70’s bob with thick fringe (bangs) looks chic, new and fairly easy to maintain with the help of a flat iron. The most recent chop might set a new trend, much like Jennifer Aniston’s “Rachel” did in the ’90’s. I think that the new do is fab. What do you think?

Gorgeous. My mother had that ‘do when she was younger and I’ve always loved it. Love Katie’s makeup and sequinned shrug, too!

The East Coast U.S. has been saturated with that haircut for the last 6 months. Short and stacked in the back and long points in the front. It’s adorable but I see it on every other head now. I definately noticed a resurgence of short haircuts lately.

And where is her face? If I just combed my hair over my face, I could look that stylish as well.

A haircut with a stacked back and long front points has been popular on the West coast too Nicole ( a la Posh Spice). I feel that the thick ’70’s curtain fringe is an update on the silhouette (like Joan Jet use to have in the early ’80’s). Super straight thick fringes might be the next big look.
I love her gold sequined shrug too.

Nope, not liking it. I thought her hair was finally looking great before the cut. It hides her face too much.

I think that she is a pretty girl, but this look makes her look like the ultra-fab Ocean’s 13 Ellen Barkin ( who must be around 50) but on Katie? Just because she married someone who is older, doesn’t mean SHE has to age as well.

The stacked, angled, precision cut is big here in Texas too. I have a variation of the cut myself, it’s super easy to style (air dry or 5 minute blow dry).
Katie’s cut is retro yet chic, I’m sure it will set off a surge of bangs- but I’ll leave the look and the flatiron to others. However, it does seem to age her a bit, maybe because the look is reminiscent of Anna Wintour’s haircut.

I had that exact hairdo last winter/spring, until I cut it all off to a pixie-do in April. I think it’s fantastic, but for someone who is supposed to be a style-setter (as all Hollywoodies should be), she seems a bit behind the times.

Interesting. I think she might be wearing the style like this for the formal event because it’s more dramatic that way. It’s probably less severe from day to day…..less face coverage as well. I also loved the first chop Tammy. I think that Katie Holms looks better with shorter hair.
I see your point Lori. Katie Holms has started to dress extremely maturely ( since she married someone older) which is why she never made my favourite celebrity style list. Despite the fact that her stylist is adorning her with fabulous clothes, the fresh youthful aspect of her style has gone which is a pity.

[...] with a sassy new ‘do, pictured here. The picture has been popping up around the internet. You Look Fab posted about it today and I commented that I didn’t like it. It hides her face. I like her in [...]

I love her bangs. I’ve always wanted cute bangs like that, but there must something about my forehead that won’t allow it. Every time in the past ten years I’ve asked a hair stylist to give me bangs like that, they look at me with horror-filled eyes and simply shake their heads. Maybe they’re afraid I’ll curl them up and end up with a poodle-inspired ball of hair on top of my head.
Perhaps Miss Katie could add a bit of youth to her look if she put a playful clip or something in her hair?

Dramatic, eye-catching and sultry/sassy/vixen. The makeup on her eyes and the shine in her hair compliment the cut. The other 2 pics she looks o.k.. She doesn’t really stand out–not bad, just girl next doorish…and young (which she is). I disagree with comments about hair covering her face. I think this cut perfectly frames and makes the features she has pop! Like it or not Katie is growing up. Very nice.

No – I do not like it! I liked the hairstyle before this one. I was hoping this was a wig!! She looks way to old – just b/c she married someone so much older than her does not mean she has to give up her youth. I so worry for her – she does not have an identity anymore. She is just crazy Tom’s wife.

I don’t like the latest at all. I love the middle one; it looks young and fun and easy. The latest looks like an awful lot of work on a day to day basis…

It reminds me of Anna Wintour’s haircut. I think it’s way too severe for Katie, plus it ages her (she’s only 28!). I think it’s a great haircut for some women, but not on Katie.

I always wanted that cut and insisted on forcing it for years before I finally gave up and accepted that my hair just won’t do that. It’s not nearly as easy as it looks. I could never get my hair to look that smooth and chic, with or without a flat iron. People always say thin hair should be shorter, but I find this kind of style works best for women with thick, shining hair, otherwise it just looks dumpy…like you couldn’t be bothered putting in enough effort.
I also had bangs like that for a while but they just didn’t work for me. My hair is too fine and they would look like hell after a short walk on a windy day.
I think the middle cut looks the easiest and also more youthful, but as a general rule, I try not to base my haircuts on celebrities. At least until I am rich enough to have my own personal stylist at my side to look out for every hair on my head. I can dream!

It almost works. The fringe (bangs) need to be cut wider across her face.

Maybe it’s just me but I like her hair softer and curly.. like in the first or second pictures.
She looks too Victoria Beckham in the last picture… a bit like an alien.
maybe I’m just imagining it on my head and going “Nuh uh.. too much maintenance”…

Addams Family, is what I heard. That does it for me.

It looks very elegant…very French..but it sort of looks like a wig but when you have a family you find short-cuts to look great…

I like the middle photo best.

I had variations of this haircut in the 90s and like it very much. It would be great if this type of structured bob came back in style. Katie has the face for it though. Doubt it will make much of a wave in the sea of long, layered hair. It is so sophisticated really.

I love it! It’s so edgy for her. The eye makeup looks great too.

Her new ‘do looks really sexy in an Aeon Flux (Charlize Theron) kind of way. Sexy and dangerous looking.
Posted on December 5th, 2007 at 8:33 am
Nope, I don’t like it. Her beautiful face is hidden too much. Seems to focus on her mouth. She has the shiny hair for it but it ages her. If I were her age, I wouldn’t be wanting to look so much older. But then, she is a celebrity…

Like Maya, I also covet that haircut but my hair is too fine for it. I think it looks pretty nice on Katie, however.

i think the bob looks great on her!!! kinda look like Catherine zeta zones on the 3rd pic….

Angie, I just want to tell you that I’m starting to like Katie’s bangs. She looked fab at the NBR Gala with the bangs swept slightly to the side!

Scratch that, it was the Mad Money premiere in LA….looking at the wrong browser…

Absolutely. The cut in this particular photo is a lot more severe because it’s a red carpet event. In everyday situations, her hairstyle is more relaxed. And her daughter shares the same hairstyle!

Her bangs and sharp bob look edgy but my own style finds the first photo of her, with long, soft hair much more attractive.
