Have you tried wool/cashmere or wool/angora blend socks? That's all I wear during the winter. I can't stand 100% wool, either--too itchy, but these blends are SOOO soft, comfy, warm and have great breathability. You can find them at all department stores as well as TJ Maxx and Marshall's for under $10 a pair.

Hey thanks! I have Express socks from 10 years ago that are still in rotation today, but I haven't tried their sock offerings recently so can't vouch for them. I'm definitely heading to Gap for a pair soon to try them out.

Any opinion on sturdy opaque tights? (And I mean REALLY opaque...)

I swear, sometimes it's like you are reading my mind. Just yesterday afternoon, I took off my socks and threw them away, and finished the day sockless because they kept slipping down around my ankles. Also, now that it's sock season again, I've noticed alot of the socks I bought last year have the start of small holes around the toes.

I can't wait to hit the Gap for socks now!!
